“Thank you.” Taking them, I smell their sweet, earthy scent.

“You’re welcome,” he rumbles.

“Let me get these in water and grab my coat.” I rush away, leaving him to watch me from the doorway.

“Take your time. Our reservation isn’t for another hour.”

“Then why pick me up so early?” I look up just as he pulls a black silk bandanna out of his back pocket.

“Because where we’re going is a surprise, and it’ll be a little bit of a drive.” He waves the fabric at me. “Do you trust me?” He waggles his brows.

Drying off my hands, I eye the bandanna. “I think so?”

He steps up to me, kissing me once more on the cheek before covering my eyes. “You should. This will be fun.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Chase

My fingers nervously drum across the top of the steering wheel. Angie patiently sits in the passenger seat, humming to the song on the radio. I’m surprised by how willing she was to be blindfolded and guided to my truck to head to our destination.

I was almost tempted to carry her down, but I didn’t see the excuse I wanted to use would work since she’s in flats rather than one of her lovely pairs of heels. It didn’t stop me from feeling up her ass when I helped hoist her get into the truck.

“You’re really not going to tell me where we’re going?”

I can’t help but laugh. “No.” I wanted to make sure my first official date would wipe her memory of the one she went on with someone else. “I like surprising you.” It’s the truth. I have never thought I would like surprising someone in a good way. The only ones I was good with before her were ones that usually called for someone getting hit in the nuts.

“Where could we possibly be going?” Her covered face rolls on the headrest in my direction. I know she can’t see shit through it. I tested it out on Ridge before I left the house.

“Somewhere I’m banking on us having plenty of alone time,” I answer without giving anything away.

“In this small-ass town?” She snorts a laugh.

My dick jumps whenever she cusses. When dressed in her work attire, she doesn’t look like someone who would say a foul thing about anyone or swear. Her sweet-girl appearance is the ultimate deception.

Not that she’s a liar, because she isn’t. Her body is a contradiction to her attitude.

“Yes, in this small-ass town.”

“How do I know you’re not just driving around town making turns every now and then to try to throw me off?”

“Because I’m not.” I find it funny she hasn’t noticed us going up in elevation yet.

Haven’t her ears popped?

There was only one place I could think of where I knew we would be able to have some time to ourselves with no distractions. I was lucky to get a quick reservation.

We are nearly to the lodge on the mountain, where I spent plenty of time with my friends and family in the winter. It’s the perfect location for a romantic date. There’s no cell service, meaning no one will interrupt us unless someone calls the lodge to talk to us. I’m hoping they aren’t too busy in the dining area tonight.

“Maybe you are, and you’re just trying to be sneaky.” She blindly reaches over and pokes my forearm. “That’s okay, though.”

“It is?”

“It is,” she affirms. “Going out with you is a dream come true already, no matter how a part of me still thinks this is a mistake.” She sighs.

I didn’t realize how much any of this would mean to her. We’ve talked about what happened in high school, for which I still feel like shit about, but I didn’t know how much a date would mean to her. Honesty comes pouring out of me. “I never imagined going out on a date.”

“Not even when you were thinking about your future?”
