“I believe I can.” I breathe.

“Good.”

Chapter Seventeen

Miles

“What the he—” Mason’s mouth snaps shut after reminding himself of where he is. “What were you thinking?” He hisses instead.

I’m helping him move a few last-minute things around at the church entrance, where guests can sign the book. I don’t know why anyone has these. Do they ever look at them after and say “hey, there’s a person I didn’t get a chance to talk to at the reception”?

“I think that getting my woman jealous might be the key to getting her back.” I’m not overly proud of this move, but I’m a desperate man, and that means I pull on the last string I ever wanted to even grab, let alone pinch.

Thea, Roper’s cousin who wants nothing more than to land a werewolf of her own, is the only woman I could think of at the last minute willing to jump at the opportunity to be my plus-one for Mason and Rylie’s wedding.

“Did you not think of the fact she’ll possibly start drama? The one thing I asked you not to do?” he snaps.

“She’s here with me. She won’t try to do anything about getting you or the others.” It’s a promise I know I can’t keep.

Sorry, God.

“Until you get what you want, and she pitches a fit,” he grumbles.

“Then Roper can deal with her.” I shrug it off like it’s no big deal. It’s foolproof.

“Why do I have to be the one to deal with her all the time?” Roper’s voice is far deeper than any of the rest of us. It adds to the mystery of him. He isn’t mysterious to us, but he’s an enigma to everyone else.

“Because you’re the only one she isn’t trying to bed.” My turn to forget I’m in a church.

He grumbles before marching away to do whatever else he can to busy himself with. I don’t miss the moment he pauses and glares down at his cousin, who has been waiting at the church with us for the past hour. She’s in a tiny dress, and I swear, one good sneeze and her plumped-up tits will fly out and take out someone’s eye.

“You’re an idiot.”

“Or a genius.” My chest expands with confidence.

Mason’s lack of a response only confirms it for me.

He’s right, though. You’re an idiot.

Taking a step back, I look over the table. I have no clue what I expect to see. I don’t know how he wants this, and since Mason walked away, this will have to do.

“Seriously, Miles.” Macy marches up to me. Her short legs eat the distance between the last pew where Thea busies herself with her phone and snapping her gum to where I stand. Her heels click on the hardwood floor. They sound angry.

“What?”

“Why did you bringthat?” She waves back to where the woman no one likes remains.

“Ouch, even I know her name, Macy.” My joke doesn’t impress her. Her arms cross, and a scowl makes her look moreadorable than threatening. Now, if Brandon was right next to her, I’d be quaking a little.

“You ran the risk of her catching fire and burning down the church, ruining your brother and Rylie’s day, Miles,” she snarls.

“Oh, shorty has jokes.”

“Knock it off. What were you thinking?” She slaps my hand away.

“He wasn’t.” Roper grunts as he walks past again, heading outside to get away from everyone.

“That’s obvious.” Oh, joy, now Brandon has joined this harp on Miles party. “Why else would he bring the one woman none of us, including Roper, cares to be around?”
