We circle around the small herd much like we did a couple of weeks ago. I have to shake my head to get the thoughts of ripping another werewolf apart out of my mind. It’s enough to raise alarm to the deer and draw their attention to me.

This gives Roper and Derek the element of surprise as they lunge out and grab two.

The rest take off while Mason and Brandon make their way into the small clearing while I go get the boys. Teague is timid for all of five seconds before lining up next to Archer and doing what our wild sides do best.

We take the boys around the face of the mountain, making sure we stay on our side of the border with the national forest before heading back down. The boys find a couple of rabbits on the edge of the cut grass that marks my yard, and I huff in the only way I’m able to laugh at the two of them failing to capture either one.

When I return to my yard, everything is cleaned up, and only a few women remain. Like with shifting, Mason is the first to change back while the rest of us follow suit. Roper is the first to leave. Brandon, Derek, and Mason go inside to collect their women before going to their own homes as well. Which leaves me with my little family.

I know I’m not Teague’s dad, and I could never replace the man who raised him, but I plan on doing my best to make him feel just as loved and welcomed in my home as his sibling will.

“Do I have to take a shower? Mom always made me shower after.” Teague groans, dragging his tired feet up the steps.

“Nah, you can go put your pj’s on, brush your teeth, and then head to bed if you want.” Rubbing the top of his shaggy head, I send him down the hallway to his room. He hasn’t allowed me to enter his room since setting it up, and I respect that. He’ll let me in when he’s ready.

“You’re not making him shower?” Alexa comes from the kitchen with a glass of water.

“He’ll be okay. He’s a kid. I used to go to bed a lot dirtier.”

“Hmm.” Coming to my side, she shakes her head and hands over the water. “That explains a lot.”

“Hey, that isn’t nice.” I press a kiss to her forehead before I take a drink. “Why don’t you go tuck him in, and I’ll make sure we’re all locked up for the night.”

“He’ll come around to you, you know that, right?” I know she’s worried about that, but I’m not.

I won’t begin to try to say I can completely understand because I can’t. I don’t know what exactly he has gone through, but I know he’ll be okay and get used to life here.

“I know.” Winking, I slap her ass to get her moving and wait. Teague doesn’t keep her for long, and when I see her sweats-clad ass backing out of the room, I can’t keep my hands to myself. Stalking toward her, I scoop her into my arms and carry her into our room with my foot kicking back to close our door.

Chapter Forty-Two

Alexa

“Miles, put me down this instant.” My husky whisper is filled with glee. I fit so easily in his embrace I can’t believe I ever doubted us.

“Not a chance.” With determined steps, he closes the distance from our now closed door to our bed. “I’ve been patient for long enough. I need my woman.”

“I’m here with no plans on going anywhere.” His hair is damp with sweat as I run my hands through it.

He growls. “As much as I love hearing that, it isn’t what I meant. I need you naked, splayed out on our bed. Ineedto slide between those gorgeous legs of yours, sink into your hungry pussy, and just enjoy us being together.”

My pulse spikes, and my breathing picks up as I’m lovingly placed on the bed. We haven’t been together in what feels like forever. And right now, I’m so very glad I decided to change into my pj’s after the guys left and the girls, Spence, and I came inside.

My top is off, freeing my aching and throbbing nipples before he can even sink to the floor to help me out of my sweats. His were gone the second I was placed on the bed, leaving him gloriously naked before me. “Maybe we implement a no underwear rule?”

He’s exquisite.

“You were hoping for this.” Not a question, a statement as the heat of his eyes licks up and down my exposed body laid out for him.

“Maybe,” I tease, knowing he can see right through me. In the two weeks since we have been back home, I have felt more like myself than I have in years. Grant’s death has set me free, settling me in a way I never thought possible. It has me looking forward to being fully with this man and Teague, who still has a long way to go, and the baby growing stronger every day safely inside me rather than looking over my shoulder.

I can take a cup of tea on the porch in the morning and enjoy it.

I can go to Rocky and Fetterman without my Roper-sized shadow or fear at all.

“God, I love you so much, Alexa.” Miles’s massive hands rub up and down my bare thighs. Thrills of delight fire off all over my body. I’m quaking with need.

Getting up, I capture his face in my hands and bring his lips a breath away from mine. “I love you, too, Miles. I love how big your heart is, your wide smile, and the safety I find when I’m in your arms.”
