I stifled a grunt. We didn’t like each other, the FBI agent and I, never had. But he was the best at what he did, and I liked the way he oversaw dirty business.

I ignored his amusement. The clock was ticking, time was running out. I’d be damned if I let thatsvoloch’[bastard]run away with my money.Cunning bastard!

“Fuck the casino. I have bigger problems to take care of.”

Knox stood up and walked past the table with a hand in his pocket. “Seems like my services are no longer needed,” he opined. “No need to overstay my welcome.”

I ignored him and focused my eyes on the ceiling. My heart pounded violently against my ribcage, beats thumping in my ear, I was consumed with rage.

Knox was almost out of the door when I said, “I need any and every information on Mike Collins. Send it to Pavel.”

“Sure thing, I’ll get to it right away,” and the door clicked shut.

Click... clickingsounds came from across the polished mahogany table. I narrowed my eyes to the side, my head tilted backward against the headrest. Pavel had his phone pressed to his ear with one hand and the other furiously clicking on a laptop. His jaw set and eyes focused on the screen.

I shut my eyes again and squeezed my fingers. My nails dug into my skin.

In. Out. In...

I was fucking tired of this.

My eyes snapped open. “We should be hunting him down by now...”

More clicks and hushed Russian banters tossed through the phone.

“I should have his head in my hand.”

Still, no answer.

“Why. The. Fuck. Is he wasting time?” my fist hit the table hard, and a resounding bang followed. Pavel didn’t even blink. He’d grown used to it. All of it. My hot-tempered swinging tantrums, frequent irritations, and unquenchable need for revenge.

The restlessness raged in me like troubled water. Like a stormy wave crashing against the shore. My fingers itched to pull the trigger. To aim and shoot.

I kicked my legs off. “His location, Pavel. That’s all I fucking asked for.”

He turned the laptop to me, and I lowered my head, squinting at the screen. I glanced at Pavel, and he stared right back. “His fucking house?”

“It took a bit of time, to figure out his hiding hole.” His fingers skimmed through his short-cut hair. “But he’s been there the whole time, boss. Collins knows we are coming for him. I’m guessing he’s planning an escape—”

“Then why are we here?” I shot up from the chair, the wheels squeaking as they rolled backward. Without another word, I marched past Axel, and out of the office with Pavel following closely behind. “Send more men.”

The cars were parked in a reserved spot behind the club, away from the public. I sat in the passenger seat, slammed the door and Pavel put the car in gear. Silence reigned between us, except for the faint clink of metal on the windshield.

“Any word from Knox?”

He threw a brief side glance and shook his head. “Not yet.”

I looked outside. It was a speeding blur of buildings and colored lights under the pitch-black sky. I tapped the muzzle against the window again. Rapidly this time.

“Don’t worry. We’re going to find him and make him pay.”

A sardonic sneer escaped my mouth. Of course, we were. That was the only end to this game. Mike would pay with his assets and his life. I scripted his fucking fate in my hands.

Pavel’s phone chimed in the cup holder. He pulled it and browsed the screen. “It’s Knox.”

I exhaled. “And?”

He returned the phone, raised his head, and looked back at the road. Knowing Pavel, he’d already downloaded the necessary information in that head of his. “Location confirmed. The house would be a good place to start the search. Mike was last seen there about an hour ago. He hasn't been seen since.”
