“They seemed eager, from what I could tell,” said Jessica. “They all but pushed you out the door when we got there.”

“Yeah, that’s great.” Desiree gestured with her hand for Leila to hurry up. “So, do you want a drink? I’ll find you something good. One drink will be fine.”

“Sure. A glass of wine would be great. Moscato if they have it,” replied Leila.

“One glass of Moscato coming up.” Desiree and Charity left together.

Leila sipped her water, watching Desiree out of the corner of her eye as she stopped next to Adler, yet he didn’t seem to acknowledge her. You wouldn’t know they were a thing. They didn’t hug, didn’t act any differently than Adler would with anyone, outside of a quick wink she caught him give her.

“Adler’s cute. Could even be considered hot. Don’t you agree, Leila?” Kristen broke into her thoughts.

Leila glanced toward the bar. Adler was leaning with his back toward her, and what a nice back it was. He was tanned and broad shouldered with muscles that were so well defined they seemed to be sculpted out of marble, and his black swim shorts sat low on his hips showing off each detailed contour. Her mouth was suddenly dry, and she took a quick sip of her water. Luckily, she was always quick on her feet and able to regain her composure. “He could be, but that enormous ego gets in the way of his good looks.” She glanced at Kristen. “You must have never talked to him. Don’t let him hear you say anything that positive about him. It instantly goes to his head.”

Stacey jumped into the conversation. “Yes, he’s a lot to get used to, and has had at least three girls with him since I’ve been with Tristan, but he grows on you. Tristan says he’s really a softyand all that ego stuff is just for show, and I’m starting to believe him.”

Desiree and Charity came back, their hands filled with drinks which they quickly passed around.

“Let’s join Jacob and Grant in the pool. It’s getting a little warm.” Desiree peeled off her thin wrap and threw it over the chair, exposing everyone to her very small string bikini. There wasn’t much to it, and Leila couldn’t help but notice the perfection of the girl’s body. How could she work in a bakery and still look that fit?

Jessica must have been thinking the same thing, but she asked instead of keeping it in her head. “Okay, Des. How do you keep looking that hot when you work in a bakery? If I was around all those baked goods every day, I’d be the size of a house.”

“Simple. I work out religiously. Y’all go to church to worship. I go to the gym. It’s the only way I can eat like I do.”

“Oh, please,” Charity chimed in. “That's such bullshit. You looked like that, maybe with a little less muscle, in high school. You’ve just been blessed with perfect genes. Just wait. One day you’ll have a baby, and that body won’t be looking like that.”

“That’s the truth.” Leila agreed before she realized what she was doing. This was why her swimsuit went above her stomach and was more of a tankini than a bikini.

“And that’s why babies are not in my future.” Desiree handed Leila her wine and dove into the deep end. A beautiful and elegant dive.

Leila glanced over. Yes. All the guys noticed. It figured.

The rest of them weren’t as elegant. They just walked into the pool at the shallow end. There were seats around the edge of the pool. Nice. Leila took a seat next to Jessica. She enjoyed just watching everyone as they interacted. Kristen sat on the other side of Jessica, and Charity was next to Kristen. Jacob and Donwere playing with Grant. He kept climbing out of the pool and jumping in for one of the guys to catch him.

“Charity, where’s the little squirt?” Desiree asked as she joined the girls and sat down next to her best friend. “You should have brought him.”

“He’s with my parents. They have him until Wednesday. We have nothing but quiet. So, if you come over, make sure you knock. We aren’t being very decent.”

Desiree nudged Charity’s arm. “Oh, yeah? Trying for baby number two?”

She shrugged. “If it happens, it happens. You know we don’t want much space between our babies. Tom-Tom’s already two.”

“See. I don’t need to have any babies. I just live through my friends. They have the babies. I get the love.”

“You also don’t get the stretch marks,” Charity added. “They’d do a number on that body of yours.”

“I hope my beautiful wife isn’t talking about stretch marks,” said Don as the guys joined them.

“Oh, she’s just talking about stretch marks and how her body might be getting more if you two succeed with all the fun you’re having in the bedroom,” Desiree filled them in.

“Really, another baby?” Jacob sat behind Kristen, wrapping his arms around her.

“If things work out,” said Don. “So, when are you two going to start a family?” he asked Jacob and Kristen.

The look on Kristen’s face was priceless. Her eyes became the size of saucers, causing Leila to snort-laugh.

“Did you just snort?” Jessica squealed as she shouldered Leila.

Leila sucked in a deep breath. “Yes.” She laughed as she looked at everyone. “I do that sometimes when a laugh sneaks up on me.”
