“Has that pretty boy ever even held a power tool?” asked Chad.

Adler pulled away. His eyes were pointed at the heavens, and he had his bottom lip sucked in. He was so adorable and hot that Liela laughed. She couldn’t help herself.

“Sorry,” he said to her as he flipped up his middle finger and turned toward the guys. “I’m busy here. Shouldn’t y’all go back to work?”

“I thought maybe you decided to come help us when we heard your bike pull up, but it looks like something else got your attention.” The smirk that Tristan gave the two of them warmed Leila.

“Anyway, Leila, Jessica sent me a text and said she’s on her way and you hadn’t answered. Now I know why.”

“Thanks, Chad.” She wanted to keep Adler a little more before she went to the pregnancy center with Jessica. “Want to see Sky?” she asked. “Then, when I go with Jessica, you can help the guys. That way you’ll be here when I get back.” She raised her brows in question.

“Let’s go.” He pulled her toward the door. “I’ll show y’all my skills with power tools once the girls are gone.”

Adler opened the door for her, and she walked into the living room and smiled at Diane who was sitting on the floor playing with Skylar.

“Adler.” Diane jumped up from the floor and gave him a hug. She stood back and looked between them. “I’m so glad to see you. What are you two up to?”

Leila gave her a hard stare, as Skylar let out a happy squeal. Leila’s heart swelled as Adler sat on the floor and Skylar started bouncing up and down and flapping her arms, a wide toothless grin on her face. Her dad was right. Babies can pick out the good ones.

“Hey, little beauty.” He picked her up and placed a kiss on her cheek.

Skylar gave another high-pitched squeal.

Diane’s arm went around Leila’s waist. “He’s the good one.”

Leila’s face shone. There was an amazing man sitting on the floor, her daughter laughing in his arms. Leila could still feel the pressure of his lips on hers. Warmth filled her. “Yeah, he really is.”

Leila and Jessica left the Crisis Pregnancy Center and went back to Leila’s, meeting up with the guys just as they were cleaning up. The deck looked great. Tom could have done it himself, but why when there were capable and willing young men to do it for him?

“This looks great,” said Jessica. “I’ll know who to call when my Grams is ready to have her deck redone.”

“I think we could help her out,” replied Chad as he gave Jessica a kiss. “We’re done. Would you mind taking me home?”

“I think I can do that,” Jessica answered with a smile. “Bye, y’all.”

“Tristan, you ready? The girls are having dinner for us,” Jacob said as he gathered the last of his tools into the back of his truck.

“Yep. I’ll be right there.” He looked between Adler and Leila. “You staying?” he asked Adler, his brow raised.

Adler smiled and wrapped his arm around Leila’s waist. “Yeah, bro. I think I am.” Leila’s heart skipped a beat when their eyes met. Her smile grew, and she leaned into his side.

“Alright. You two be good.” Tristan grinned wide and climbed into his truck.

When he was out of sight, Adler turned to her. “I guess I should’ve asked you. Is it okay if I stay awhile?”

Her desire for him was intense, and her heart beat wildly. “I’m glad you want to.” She grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer.

His crooked smile melted her heart, and whatever issues she had were gone. His lips met hers, and her breath caught as she was lost in everything Adler.

His kiss was warm and a little desperate. She slid her hand behind his neck and kissed him harder. Suddenly, very awarethat she had almost lost him, she pulled herself against him in a desperate plea to feel him and taste all of him. Finally, they pulled away, their breaths rapid, and her hands rested on his shoulders.

He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. “Can we go inside? It’s a little dark out here, and I’d love to spend some time with Skylar.”

He wanted to spend time with her and Skylar. What was she thinking, pushing him away? “Sounds great. Let’s go get her.”

They went to Leila’s apartment with Skylar, had sandwiches for dinner, and just enjoyed being with each other. They sat on the floor of Skylar’s room playing with her before she had to go to bed.

“I almost forgot. I have something for you both.” Adler stood and put his hand in his pocket. “Here.”
