I shake my head.

“What?!” Benji yells with mock indignation. “You’ve never been on a board?”

“I can ski,” I say defensively.

“Not the same thing,” Kane adds, eavesdropping from a few feet away while flipping patties.

“Don’t worry.” Benji leans in and bumps my shoulder with his. “We’ll teach you.”

“This place, covered in snow, is the best, Lo,” Santiago adds.

I smile. “You don’t have to sell this town to me. I know how great it is.”

It’s just all happening so fast …

Kane steps closer to take our order, and fifteen minutes later, there’s a basket holding a burger, dripping with cheese, and waffle fries overflowing on the sides.

My eyes roll back in my head as my teeth sink into that first bite. “This is so good.” I moan out the words.

All the guys are staring at me, and it makes me laugh.

“What?” I say when they keep looking. I wipe a napkin across my lips.

“Say it again,” Santiago commands, his dark eyes smoldering.

I toss a fry at him. It hits his chest and bounces to the floor with the others. He winks before turning his attention back to his work. There are a few other people sitting around the space, but it looks like most of the orders are for takeout.

We take our time eating. I’m introduced to more locals as the meal extends. Benji and Wyatt seem to know every person who comes through the door. A dollop of ketchup lands on my blouse instead of in my mouth halfway through, but not even that stain can diminish my day.

I eat most of my food, and Wyatt and Benji insist on paying for lunch.

“Thanks,” I say as I walk outside with the two men after saying goodbye to Kane and Santiago. “I needed that.”

Wyatt hugs me close to his chest. I bury my face in his neck. Benji rubs my back.

“It’s all gonna work out, Lo,” Benji promises.

“I know,” I say, hoping it’s true. My shoulders sag for a moment from the weight of the past few weeks. “Everything’s just changing so quickly.”

“Change can be good,” Wyatt says.

I pull back and look up at his soft brown eyes. They crinkle in the corners when he smiles at me.

“When are you supposed to hear about the job?” Benji inquires.

I shrug. “Not sure. Hopefully soon.”

“So, what happens now? Are you heading back to the city? Going back to work?” Wyatt asks.

“I’m heading back to the city,” I answer, “but probably not going back to work.”

Benji’s brows furrow. “Why not?”

“That’s a long story for another day. I’m too tired to go into it right now.” I hug Benji goodbye and start moving toward my SUV. “I’ll let you both know when I hear something.”

“You’d better,” Wyatt demands.

“I will.” I climb into the driver’s seat. “But I need to get back to the rental to pack.”
