“I have to leave early in the morning to get to Syracuse for my flight, but I’ll wake you up before I go. I’ll kiss you goodbye. I’ll sext you on the plane.” She laughs, though her eyes are misty. “I’ll call you every night… maybe for some phone sex. And then I’ll be home for ten full days, and I want to wake up in your arms every morning. Sound okay?”

“Fuck yes,” I whine, shooting up and grabbing her, wrapping my hands in her hair as I drag her down to me. I suck one of her nipples into my mouth, and she rubs her fingers over my clit. We give in, absolutely gone for each other, ready to spend the night worshipping each other as we twine together once again.

Amelia

“Mm, that feels so good,” I groan as Miles massages his fingers against my scalp. We’re standing under the rainfall showerhead in our hotel suite, and he’s washing all the sweat and hair products out of my hair.

I’m not sure how I’m still standing. We had one quickie at the venue, reminiscing back to the night we met, then we got to our hotel room just up the road, and he made me his in every way. He fucked my mouth, he ate my pussy, then he slowed down and made love to me, our eyes locked through every raw, sensual moment. Now here we are. I lost track of how many orgasms I had, but my legs are still shaking.

The most powerful moment, though, was when he pushed into me for our final round—which was slow and sensual. He looked into my eyes like I was the only woman on earth and told me with so much devotion in his voice, how deeply he loves me. If any bricks guarding my heart were left, they turned to rubble.

He rinses my hair, then spins me back around, kissing me deeply as the water pours over us.

“I love you, wifey.”

“I love when you call me that, hubby.”

“Mm, good.” He turns the water off, then picks me up and carries me out of the shower. Because he’s Miles, he then dries off every inch of my body. Not in a sexual way, but in the caretaking way.

I remember once thinking he was dangerously gentle, and that’s still true. He can be possessive and protective and own my body, but he can also be so thoughtful and gentle it melts me to a puddle.

He’s my king, my husband, the love of my life.

I don’t know how I got this lucky. Maybe it’s the universe making up for all the shit I’ve had to endure.

I’m so grateful I got to have my mom at the wedding. I had no idea Noelle was bringing her or that she was coming in on her day off to do it. The dedication she—and many of the other nurses I’ve met—have to the patients and their families is dumbfounding. I think I thanked her about a hundred times. They only stayed for the ceremony and for mine and Miles’s first dance. I didn’t want her there for the mother-son dance, because I didn’t want her to ask why Dad wasn’t dancing with me. But she got to see the wedding, spend time with Emmie, and be a part of the pictures. I’ll now have beautiful photos of her with Emmie and me to pass along to Emmie one day, and I’m forever grateful for that.

Miles hands me a cozy bathrobe, then kisses my cheek. “Go get comfortable. I’ll be out in a minute.”

I head out of the bathroom and get comfortable in the king size bed. Grabbing my phone, I check my texts for an update from Katie. The last ones were about twenty minutes ago, and features a picture of Emmie looking milk drunk after her bottle. The next is Katie letting me know Emmie is peacefully asleep in her crib. Katie is staying at our apartment with her tonight so we could have a night alone. I close my messages and scroll through my social media so I can see the pictures people have shared from our wedding.

It seems impossible that a couple of years ago most of these people weren’t in my life or were at the periphery of it. Now I have this whole tribe of wonderful humans. Not just Miles’s friends, either. I’ve become close with some of the Ardito and Barone families from AB Construction and some of Jesse’s friends as well. It’s cool seeing how all these friend groups intertwine and building my own ties among them.

There’s a knock on the hotel room door, and Miles goes to answer it. He says a couple of things, then walks over to the bed, looking scrumptious in the bright white robe. He places a bag from McDonald’s in my lap.

“Thank God for all the different delivery apps these days. And to the bellman for bringing this upstairs, so we could have McDonald’s delivered right to our hotel room door at midnight.”

I open the bag, smiling like a loon. I’m crazy for these burgers, but more specifically, the tradition of enjoying it with Miles.

“Smells so good. The food at the reception was great, but there’s nothing like your favorite fast food in the middle of the night.”

I pull out several burgers, a chicken sandwich for Miles, and a couple of orders of fries.

Miles grabs the remote and finds a rerun of Friends to watch as we dig into our food. He wraps one arm around me and I nestle against him.

“This is the perfect wedding night.”

He looks down at me, smiling widely. “Only the best for my wife.”

“You can call me that forever.”

“That’s the idea, sweetness.”

I can’t believe I’m married to the man of my dreams. It still feels surreal and completely crazy in the best way.

“Thank you,” I whisper, looking up at him.

He pauses, two fries in his hand. “I’ll order you McDonald’s whenever you want.”
