“You’ve still got time to decide.”

“You really don’t care?”

He smiles. “Nope. All I care about is marrying you. As long as I get to do that, we can be surrounded by a swarm of people or standing alone. Whatever makes you happy and comfortable is what I want. Speaking of… did you want to ask someone to walk you down the aisle? My dad or one of the guys? Rae’s grandfather would do it.”

I clear my throat, letting the weight of that question settle, then fade away. “I’ve been thinking a lot about this. I’m still not sure. I might walk alone. I thought about asking your mom or walking with one of the girls. I’m not sure yet. Nothing I’ve thought of so far feels right, so I’m waiting until something does.”

He reaches for my hand, being careful not to disturb Emmie, who has fallen into a tenuous sleep.

I sit up and take his hand, shifting so I’m closer to him.

“I’m okay.” And I am. There hasn’t been much I’ve been emotionally prepared for in the last year or so, but getting married without my dad is one of them. In my tote of things, I have a note from him to open on my wedding day. I was prepared not to have him here. What I wasn’t prepared for was having a beautiful group of family and friends who I could choose from to walk with me.

“Are you sure? Because if not, telling me about the dress might help you.”

“Miles Hyun-Hansen. If you ever want to see that dress, you need to behave.”

“Sorry, not sorry. I can’t wait to see you in a wedding dress, walking down the aisle to me. I thought about it at Sarah’s wedding, and Dani’s, and plenty of times since. I can’t help that I fell hard for you. It’s your intelligence, independence, kindness, and smart mouth. You drive me crazy. I’m all in for you. And the way you love me? I’m a goner, such a sucker for you since day one.”

Holding Emmie in place, he leans forward and kisses me. It’s gentle and understated, but the soft press of his lips to mine is awash with love. Our love.

Emmie lets out a loud snore—a typical noise for her—and we both laugh while breathing sighs of relief. It’s two in the morning, but I think we’ve made it through the worst of it.

“You want to tell me about the dress now, right?”

“All that talk just to try and win me over?”

“Nah. I love you. I was just hoping maybe it might inspire a detail or two to slip out.”

Narrowing my eyes at him, I bite my lip. “Well, I guess I could reveal one thing.”

His eyes light. He’s like an excited puppy. “Tell me.”

Moving closer, I tilt my head, grazing my lips up his neck before nipping his earlobe. “You can go down on me while I’m wearing it.”

Then I lean back, laughing.

He groans, then reaches over and gives my thigh a hard squeeze, making me laugh. “You’re mean.”

“Nope. You asked for a detail. I gave you one.” I wink. Then yawn. Because it’s two in the freaking morning.

“Lay down,” he says, instantly switching back to caretaker mode.

“She’s probably fine to go in her crib now. If you want to rest too.”

He looks down at Emmie, then over at me. “I’m good. Surprisingly awake, honestly. I want to enjoy her for a bit.”

“If you’re sure.”

“I am. Rest, sweetness.”

I stare at him for a beat, then pop a kiss on his cheek. I could go back to the bedroom, but I don’t want to leave my man or my girl, so I settle in on the couch next to Miles. He grabs a blanket from the other side of him and puts it over me, and I’m asleep within minutes.

My phone vibrating wakes me. When I open my eyes, I find Miles asleep at the other end of the couch where I last saw him. Emmie is in her swing. It’s nearly eight, which means I somehow slept in that weird position since four when Emmie ate last.

Pushing myself up to sitting, I rub my eyes, then grab my phone. The vibrations were from several emails, and when I open my email app, my mouth drops.

“Oh my god,” I mutter, and Miles shoots awake.
