“She forgot your heart.”

Forrest bursts out laughing, and I wish that he was back in Manchester. Then something over his shoulder catches my eye. We’re at the coffee place across the street from my offices, so I can see the front entrance clearly from where we are. I watch as a dark-haired woman wearing jeans and a bulky jacket, huddled against the November chill, looks up at the building. It looks like she’s not sure whether to go in or not. Then she turns in our direction, and I see her face.

It’s Emma.

I sit up immediately. Emma is here? How is that possible?

“Mark?” Forrest frowns at me. “Are you okay?”

“It’s her. She’s here.”

“What?”

“Emma. She’s outside my office.”

Confused, Forrest looks around. Then realisation dawns.

“Ah. I see. Looks like you’ve had your prayers answers.” He sniggers. “Do you want me to introduce myself? I’m sure I can keep her distracted…”

I let out a growl that makes Forrest laugh, and I get to my feet.

“I’ll be back.”

“Are you sure about that?” Forrest winks at me. “I can see you having a quickie in your office and completely forgetting about me.”

“Don’t start that, Forrest. I’ll come and find you shortly.” I move towards the door. “I have to deal with this first.”

I shouldn’t be running away from my friend like this, but Emma’s right outside my office and looks ready to bolt. I can’t have her running away from me again.

I need answers, and I don’t plan on letting her go until I get them. Although I’m not sure if I can let her go after that.

Hurrying across the room, and somehow not getting run over, I approach Emma as she hovers outside my building. She looks indecisive, as if she is planning on running away. I can’t let that happen.

“Emma!”

Emma spins around, her eyes widening when she sees me. For a second, I think that she’s going to run away. She looks prepared to bolt. But instead she swallows and manages a nervous smile.

“Hey. I…I thought you’d be working.”

“I was just on my break.”

I hope Forrest will allow me to make it up to him. Being this close to Emma is making my body itch to reach out and hold her, to make her feel better. I can tell something’s not right, and it’s hurting to see her like this. I clear my throat when I realise that I’m staring at her.

“Are you okay? Is something wrong?”

“That would depend on what you mean by wrong.” Emma bites her lip, and I feel my cock hardening at the sight. “I need to talk to you, Mark. It’s important, and private.”

Now she’s got my attention. Important and private? Why would she need my help after not contacting me for two months?

Is she in trouble with her ex? I did say I could give her help with that. Maybe that’s it. Trying not to feel rage at the thought of someone else touching Emma, I gesture towards the entrance.

“Let’s go up to my office. Then we can talk.”

Although being alone might be a bad idea. I still want to grab her and rip her clothes off. My cock is looking forward to it.

Damn, I need to think with my other head. Things go better when that happens.

Emma
