He reached out to gently squeeze my hand. "Casey, you're not imposing. I don't want to let you out of my sight after what happened today. I'll feel better knowing you're safe with me."

His words were genuine, and I appreciated his care and concern. I finally nodded and smiled, giving in to his request. "Alright, I'll stay the night. Thank you, Christian."

A relieved smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he focused on the road ahead. The ranch was just around the corner.

I pulled out my phone to call Brett.

“Hey, everything okay?” He answered.

“Yeah, of course.” I looked at Christian. “I was actually going to stay at the ranch, with Christian, if that’s okay.” I waited for his response.

“Well, I thought you might want to watch a movie or something.” He sounded disappointed. It made me sad. I looked at Christian again, who gave me a small smile. I wanted Christian more than anyone right now.

“I’m okay. Christian just thought the fresh air might help.”

He paused. “Okay. Well, if you say so.” I heard him tell Tamara that I was going to stay at the ranch. She didn’t hear Tamara’s reply. “You sure you’re okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine,” I assured him.

“Okay. Tamara and I might get dinner if that’s okay with her?” I smiled. He was using me to ask Tamara out to dinner. I was glad something good was coming from this.

“Sure!” I heard Tamara in the background. I chuckled.

“Yeah? Okay. Yeah. That’s awesome. Great.” I could tell he was nervous. How cute.

“Call us if you need anything at all!” He said.

“I will. Enjoy dinner.”

“You too. Bye!” We got off the phone just as Christian turned onto the road for the ranch.

As we pulled into the ranch, the welcoming sight of the dog running excitedly towards the truck brought an instant smile to my face. His transformation from a neglected and dehydrated dog to a bundle of joy was nothing short of remarkable.

"Wow," I marveled, watching him approach, his tail wagging furiously. "He looks so much better."

Christian parked the car and turned to me, his eyes softening as he looked at Sparky. "Yeah, I couldn't leave him out there like that. After I left the hospital last night, I gave him a bath and named him Sparky. Seemed fitting."

I opened the door and reached out to stroke Sparky's head as he reached us, clearly appreciative of the care Christian had shown him. "That's really sweet of you, Christian. He seems to love you already."

Christian chuckled, and he gently ruffled Sparky's fur. "I think we'll make a good team."

Christian and I stepped into the ranch house, where I was met with a heartwarming surprise. The couch had been transformed into a cozy nest of pillows and blankets, clearly prepared with care. I couldn't help but chuckle as I took it all in.

"You really went all out, didn't you?" I asked, turning to Christian with a playful grin.

He grinned in return, his eyes filled with warmth. "Only the best for my fiancée."

I made my way to the couch, sinking into the soft pillows and wrapping myself up in the warm blankets. Sparky followed suit, curling up beside me with a contented sigh. It felt like the perfect place to unwind after a long and emotionally charged day.

"Comfortable?" Christian asked as he stood by the couch, his gaze fixed on me.

I nodded, feeling a sense of peace and gratitude wash over me. "More than I can express, Christian." I yawned, feeling the pain medication start to settle in. My eyes were getting heavy.

He smiled and sat down beside me, close enough that our shoulders brushed. "I'm just glad you're safe, Casey."

I snuggled deep in the covers and sighed.

"Want to see what I’ve been up to?” He walked over to the window. “So, you see, the old window frame was pretty worn out," he explained, gesturing animatedly with his hands. "I had to remove it carefully, making sure not to damage the surrounding wood."
