I glanced over at him and shrugged, causing him to raise an eyebrow.

But if I’d been honest, no. Hell no. Even in thirteen degrees with a wind chill wasn’t cutting it, not when I could still taste Lia on my tongue, hear her breathy, uncertain moans, feel her silky-smooth skin and see her writhing on my lap – messy golden hair falling into her face as she fell apart on my fingers.

Fuck, stop. You have to focus.

Why did I feel this way? What was it about this woman that threatened to undo me? And instead of getting rid of her, I’d kept her. I’d tasted, teased and tortured her a little – thinking it would offer me relief.

But it had only made things worse. Now, I was like a goddamn overheated wire about to snap. All I wanted to do was go back to her; take her in any fucking way I pleased.

I’d wanted it since I first laid eyes on her. Now that she’d been in my hands, I wanted it even more.Unable to help myself, I balled my hands into fists and wished I could take off my gloves. Usually, the soft leather didn’t bother me even though I didn’t like having my hands covered.

Shifting from foot to foot, I told myself it wasn’t because I wanted my bare hands exploring every inch of Lia’s naked skin. I hadn’t even undressed her fully. On the one hand, that had me snapping like a rabid dog at the end of a chain.

On the other hand, it was something to look forward to — my intriguing blonde with her pretty hazel eyes that lit up with passion.

Wait,mine?

Daniel interrupted my thoughts with a nudge – I glared at him. He took a long inhale, regarding me, and then removed his cigarette. “Are you alright, Ty?” His gaze narrowed at me as I gave a curt nod. “Sure about that? You’re acting strange.”

I snorted. “Thanks. I’m fine.”

“If byfineyou meanjittery.”

“Jittery?” I retorted. “Don’t make me laugh. I have absolutely no concerns about what’s about to go down.”

“Not in that way,” Daniel said.

I groaned. “Stop with the observant shit, Danny-boy. Keep it to yourself. Please.”

“It’s like you had a bunch of espresso shots and now you can’t stay still,” Daniel replied, ignoring what I’d said. He tilted his head and gazed at me for several seconds before blinking and blurting out, “You’reawake.”

Something about his final two words struck at something in my chest and I tucked my chin into my jacket, pretending to ignore him. I didn't want to admit it but, hell, Danny might have been onto something.

“And distracted,” he added, and I glared at him again. Daniel gave me his best shit-eating grin. “What? You keep me around for my honesty.”

“I’m not distracted,” I said. “I’m annoyed these Russian fuckers are late. Did Luca say why this had to happen tonight?”

“No,” Daniel answered. “Just that he's friends with this guy and this guy apparently needs to speak with you urgently.”

“And I went and gave Art and Pasquale the night off.”

“Yeah, I figured as much when they didn’t answer their phones,” Daniel said and lifted a walkie-talkie. “Boracuso,” he said. “Any movement down your end?”

“Just from my fuckin’ balls about to freeze the fuck off,” crackled back Boracuso’s voice. “Did those Russians bail on us?”

Daniel checked his watch and responded, “Give it five minutes.”

An affirmative groan answered and I bit back a laugh. Boracuso was a newly made guy. I’d been hesitant about bringing him to this meeting but Daniel had vouched for him. Besides, one of our oldest guys, Matteo Meroni, was keeping an eye on him.

“Wait a minute, are weearly?” I demanded, and Daniel glanced at his watch then dropped his cigarette and stubbed it. “Fuckin A, Danny. I should throw you in the harbor.”

As I said that, the wind blew the other way, bringing with it a skim of snow and the scent of the ocean. We were only a couple of blocks over from the harbor in a neutral area of Eastie that often served as a meeting point. Every once in a while, metal wings thrummed overhead from planes landing at Logan, interrupting the steady whiz of traffic from Tobin Bridge.

“We're on time,” Daniel said and, at that moment, the walkie-talkie crackled.

“Someone’s comin’,” Boracuso said.

“Somethin’ you’re not telling me?” I asked.
