Alexei stayed so long talking to Luca that I thought he was never going to leave.

It was almost surreal watching him working hand in hand with Luca. With Luca’s guidance, he patched up holes in security that even I hadn’t managed to think of. Of course, before he left, Alexei tripled my watch and hid a gun where only I knew where to find it easily - but he did finally leave.

I’m afraid to look at my phone because I know that I’m going to see countless messages waiting for me from the girls wanting explanations for our ruined evening. Not that I would know what to say in the first place.

I took a long, hot shower to try to calm down before my brother left. He insisted on it actually. He didn’t want to have me caught off guard. He’s still a little overprotective in my opinion, but I understand.

The blood had dried on my skin and started to itch like crazy. I was only too happy to get it off and put on clean clothes. I’m a little disappointed that I might have lost one of my favorite hoodies forever.

I chose to wear another oversized T-shirt to pair with my satin sleep shorts. I quickly and messily braided my hair down one side and left it like that to dry in ringlets. Mostly I just need it out of my face while I deal with… all of this.

I don’t even know where to start. The more the guys had talked shop in front of me the more unsettled I felt.

It’s not like Alexei has everhiddenhis business from me. I know what he does. He knows better than to lie to me. I approve, for the most part, of the way that he chooses to fund our lavish lifestyle. But seeing Luca standing there talking to him made everything feel so much morerealsomehow.

Luca was just supposed to be some random guy and now he’s technically my prisoner.

Well, as much of a prisoner as a man eating cold leftover Chinese food can be. He picks at the vegetables in the container with a pair of wooden chop sticks. His jacket is draped over the back ofmy couch carelessly and he doesn’t even look up as I walk back into the room from seeing my brother off.

“Make yourself at home, why don’t you.” I mutter.

“I will, thanks.” Luca responds.

Something about the flippancy in his tone gets right under my skin and I stop walking. I cross my arms over my chest because I feel like if I don’t, I might hit him. Then we get nowhere at all. “That’s all that you have to say to me?”

He puts the container down at least as he cocks his head at me in silent question.

“Nothing else?” I repeat, my frustration growing louder. “How about a thanks for not letting my brother shoot you in your stupid face? How about, sorry that I lied and conned you into my bed? How about, sorry Katya, I used you to get to your brother but thanks for making it easy!”

If he doesn’t wipe that smug ass grin off of his face, all bets are off.

“Sure.” Luca answered jovially. He let the heels of his hands rest on the counter of my kitchen island and stared me down. “And then while we’re at it, we can throw in a thank you for saving my ass, Luca. Thank you for sparing my life, Luca. Thank you for making me cum so hard I sawstarsLuca.”

I scoff on principal. Even if heat pools in my core at the very thought of it. “You think very highly of yourself, don’t you?”

“Am I wrong?”

“I faked it.” I lie easily. I even manage to keep a straight face while doing it.

Luca’s head tilts predatorially as his tongue presses into the roof of his mouth. “Oh? Which time?”

Damn him.

“Admit that you’re only using me to get to my brother.” I spit with a sneer.

“I’m not. That’s just an added little bonus. I would have taken you home even if I had had o idea who you were.”

“So, you did go there on purpose. You knew who I was before I ever spoke to you, didn’t you?”

A nod.

“Typical. Fucking typical. Alpha wannabe assholes.” I mutter to myself and turn my back to him.

I need to put distance between us. I can’t keep looking at him and his damned handsome face when I’m so angry. If everythingthat he’s said so far is true, then this could be life changing for my brother and his business. I need to respect that. I had been the one to accept Luca’s protection after all. But I might end up killing him myself if he doesn’t stop looking at me like that.

I don’t even make it all of the way to the small bedroom just off of the living room before I hear his heavy steps behind me. Luca’s hand finds my waist and he whips me around to face him. My breath locks in my chest as he backs me up against my open bedroom door. His hand curls possessively around my hip and I should fight him - I should shake him off and scream at him that he’s never allowed to touch me again… in a moment. I will tell him to stop in a minute.

“I meant what I said,” he breathes, irritation firing in his eyes. “If I wanted you dead, then you would be. I had plenty of opportunities to put you six feet under the first time I saw you.”
