“What exactly did they say, Lad?”

“Oh, yeah, you weren’t there,”I scoffed.

Searching my memory as I mentally told my cousins all was well, I focused on every word my mother had said after she handed me the ruby. When I was sure I had them, I slowly reiterated,“Mom said, ‘You will know when the time is right. The stone will burn bright. It will lead you to the woman the made for you by the Universe, your Mate, your Lucy’.”

“That was it?”

“Yeah, isn’t it enough?”

“Of course, it’s enough. I just wanted to be sure there was nothing more.”

"You wanted to what? When have you ever been unsure?"I snapped. Then, instantly rethinking my haste, I corrected and asked, “Does that mean the gem is really leading me to my Mate?”

“I believe it is.”

Unable to look away from the images coming into view in the center of the light display, the breath froze in my lungs. Not only did the Aurora Borealis come into view, but I also saw the side of Mt. Mosfellsdalur. Reaching down, I pinched the back of my hand just to be sure I wasn't on another Mind Walk.

When pain shot up my arm, I mentally breathed,"Holy shit! Do you feel that, Old Man? It’s real. I’m awake. Not dreaming, not Mind Walkin’. Really awake.”

Before Sith could so much as think of his answer, Nate whispered, "Can you see anything? Is it all just smoke and mirrors, or is it some message for you?"

“You can’t see Mt. Mosfellsdalur? The Aurora Borealis? Leiruvogur Bay? Anything?” I was stunned. How could they not see what I saw?

"Nope. We just see a huge ruby spinning in the air and a really bright red light," Nate answered.

“And smoke,” Chris added. “Don’t forget the smoke.”

“What the hell is happening?” Mick growled. “Why the hell is everything red?”

"Do we need to….?" Liam tried to ask but was cut off when Nate snarled, "Quiet. Let Noel think."

And think was exactly what I didnotdo. Thinking would’ve made me try to find a reason for what was happening, and let’s face it, there’s just no rhyme nor reason for miracles.

So, I watched. I didn’t breathe. I didn’t blink. Hell, I didn’t even let a muscle twitch. All I did was stand perfectly still and wait for the clue I needed.

“It’s coming, Lad,”Sith whispered, his voice more of a growl than its usually commanding tone. “Can you feel it? It’s building. Magic as old as Time and the promise the Universe made to you and your Mate is coming.”

“I can feel it,”I breathed.

The images became clearer – more vivid with each passing second. Every rock, crevice, weed, and scurrying animal on the side of the mountain range whizzed toward me at break-neck speed, propelled by the Power of Mother Earth and the Great Goddess. I could see every detail down to the whiskers on the snout of a field mouse as it hurried to hide.

It was the weirdest sensation I’d ever experienced – and that’s coming from a guy who shared his soul with an Ancient Dragon King and could Shift into said Dragon at any given moment. Not to mention all the other crazy shit that came along with being one of the Universe’s Chosen Warriors. It was weird with a capital W.

Time stood still, but I was moving – getting ever closer to a Magical Gateway opened by Earthen Magic that both….

“That is Mother Nature, Lad,”Sith breathed.“She is calling us forward.”

Caught in my very own vacuum, it was as if the whole of the universe whirled and twirled around me. It was so different from Mind Walking, yet somehow similar. I could see the wind blowing but could not feel it. The sun was shining, but its warmth never reached me. It was as if….”

“We’re in a portal!”Sith and I roared in unison.

No sooner had we thought the words that did a single flash of light damn near blind me, and the brilliant spot of light opened wide enough for me to step through. Now, I was never one to wax philosophical, but as the scent of freshly baked cookies, sweet vanilla, and cinnamon filled my senses, the image of a tiny girl with long, dark ponytails and light blue eyes was all I could see.

With little more than the blink of my eye, the vision blinked to a full-grown woman with long dark curls, the same blue eyes, and a smile that literally made my heart skip a beat. She was gorgeous. No, she was breathtaking, but that wasn't the best part. What had my temperature rising and my need to find her overriding my every instinct was the sheer intelligence and strength that shone brightly in her eyes.

Then it happened. The light, the spark, the essence of what the Universe and The Powers That Be had put into place at the beginning of time – the Mating Bond I shared with Lucy Abigail Bliss Brown sprung to life. Pulsing with the Magic of the great Archer Dragons and the incomparable Brown Witches, it grew and expanded, then threw off a bright, glowing tendril that flew from my soul, searching for its other half.

Not even so much as looking at my surroundings, I took off at a sprint, trusting Sith to keep me from falling ass over teakettle and rolling down the side of Mt. Mosfellsdalur. Following the glittering trail of Magic over the rugged terrain, my pounding footsteps filled my ears. I couldn't catch my breath, and I didn't need to. Everything around me was a blur – but I couldn't lose sight of the only thing leading me to my Mate.
