“That will be great. I’m spiralling,” I said.

“Wraith, Bones, Thalia, bring the kids here,” Chance bellowed.

Seconds later, I was being lowered as Chance sat on the street and curled me into his lap. Small bodies hit me, and Thalia got down next to us. Five kids crowded in, and I felt the panic recede a little.

Louisa Mae hit me with such force Chance rocked. My arms folded around her, and I breathed in her sweet baby scent.

“Clio saved her,” Thalia said, but her voice was like a whisper in the wind. “She was going to give her life to save Louisa Mae.”

“Like any good mother would,” Chance agreed, his hand holding the back of my neck in reassurance as his other stroked Lousia’s back.

I couldn’t hear, but Chance’s own heart pounded heavily against my cheek. And I relaxed further. If my big, strong man had been frightened, then it was fine for me to be scared. And Chance wasn’t yelling; he was soothing me with everything he had.

Together, we sat there as the police and ambulance arrived. Luckily, Lio had answered the call, or shit might have hit the fan.

Half an hour after their arrival, I was bundled into the ambulance with Thalia and taken to the hospital, where Janet was waiting. In her safe embrace, I let my tears and fears out, knowing that not even this event would break me. Because I was Clio Michaelson, and I had a fucking MC at my back.

Chapter Seven.

Clio

Istared in horror at the scene unfolding before my eyes. All my clever planning and time donated, and it was about to be undone by one unruly dog. The Great Dane bounded towards me, tongue hanging out as Calamity chased its heels. People shot to the sides with amused and wary glances as the big canine kept on coming.

Celt gave an unmanly squeal and vaulted his stall to protect his glassware. The dog who’d been heading straight for him spun on a dime and dashed past Chance, who leapt at it… and fell on his face.

Calamity jumped over Chance and kept going as the hound spotted Penny and her delicious food.

“Don’t you dare!” Penny bellowed, and the dog veered off as Texas landed flat on the ground with a bone-jarring thud.

Levi, Smokey, and Chatter tried to stop it next. The Great Dane dodged the three of them, barking loudly as he bounced around them. They soon fell into a pile of arms and legs.

“Get your sorry ass here!” Calamity yelled as people began to snicker. Phones were out and recording, and I knew this was hitting social media.

A pained yell from Levi caught my attention briefly as Chance jumped over him just as Levi sat up. Levi took a steel toe cap to the head, and Chance hit the ground headfirst.

I swapped a glance with Pyro and Axel as the dog ran in a circle around the four downed men, and Calamity chased him like something from a slapstick comedy.

“I don’t believe this. It’s like a real-life episode of Scooby fucking Doo,” I complained.

The dog noticed Celt, who remained spread-eagle protecting his stall, and gave a loud woof and headed towards him. Rosie dashed into the fray with a bag of treats, which was ignored as it kept heading toward Celt and his glassware.

I closed my eyes, expecting the sound of smashed glass within seconds, and was puzzled when it didn’t occur. On opening my eyes, I saw Celt wrestling the Great Dane while Chey bravely protected the stand. Beside her stood Bear.

Celt yelped as the dog licked his face, and his grip slipped as Calamity reached for it.

“No!” Calamity yelled as the dog shot past him, and he missed by millimetres. Chance and Levi had managed to extract themselves from Chatter and Smokey when the huge animal barrelled back over them, and they got tangled back up. This time, it kept coming towards me, and I froze. That thing would eat me alive! Pyro began to move in front of me to protect me when I decided enough was enough.

“Stop right there and sit your doggie ass down!” I bellowed. The Great Dane skidded to a halt and stared at me in shock. “How dare you be so naughty? Lie down. I have had enough!”

To everyone’s surprise, it sat and bowed its head before lying down. Huge brown eyes gazed at me, and my heart tugged.

“Thank God,” Calamity wheezed, finally catching up.

The dog’s butt wriggled as Calamity got close.

“Don’t you even think about it! Yeah, that’s right, I’m the alpha bitch around here. Now, stay still and behave!” I yelled at it.

Giggles erupted from the watching crowd as Calamity got a leash on the dog. The dog gave me a baleful stare, and Chance hobbled over to me.
