I think about the blonde Russian with her sugar-coated words and vague promises.

“No, I don’t. The Mincettis are dangerous. I’m not inviting people like that into my bed.”

“You already had one in your bed,” Jason retorts.

“Drop it, Jase. The only woman I want in my bed now is Rosario De Luca.”

He chuckles and lets out a small whistle. “Damn, I can’t imagine you being monogamous, E. That’ll be a sight to see. You’re going to marry this chick without even knowing her?”

“We wouldn’t get married immediately,” I murmur.

I don’t mention that I already met Rosa or the fact that she intrigues me. When I first heard about the De Luca princess, I expected a mild-mannered woman who would lie down unmoving while she was fucked. But she’s got a fire in her. One I wasn’t expecting. One that makes my blood heat. It doesn’t help that she’s fucking gorgeous. The thought of her silky straight black hair and stunning blue eyes has me clenching my jaw.

Not everyone has a soul left to give.

Truer words have never been spoken, although I do find it odd that she said something like that. My future bride is much more jaded than I expected. Which is interesting.

I have a habit of getting bored fast. But I have a feeling that’s not going to happen with Rosa.

CHAPTER 4

Rosa

Something’s wrong. My eyes collide with Elena’s over the tense silence at the table as we eat dinner. It’s been like this the past two days. And I keep waiting for them to tell us what it is, but all three of the guys have been silent.

It has something to do with the meeting with this Enzo Russo guy, but my brother is being incredibly tight-lipped about it. He didn’t even tell Elena and she’s beyond pissed. Even baby Cassie is starting to be affected by the atmosphere.

A fork clangs against a plate as Elena rises to her feet.

“I can’t do this anymore,” she mutters, reaching for the baby in the high chair beside her. “If you all insist on continuing to act like someone’s dead or about to die, then I’m not spending any time with you.”

With that little announcement, she walks out of the dining room. Roman drops his fork as well and leans back in his seat.

“You’ve got to tell her, man,” Tony speaks up from behind me.

“Yeah, I will,” he murmurs, running a hand through his hair.

“Um, excuse me,” I say, raising a hand. “I’d like to know, too.”

“Not you,” Roman says with a scowl.

My eyebrows rise. “Hey, don’t bite my head off.”

He groans. “You’re right. I’m sorry,sorella.”

“Whatever the Don of the Russos said must have really rubbed you the wrong way,” I muse. “So what is it, are you guys going to war again? Are we safe?”

“We’re safe,” Michael assures me. “And we’ll fill you in later, Rosa. We’re just trying to take care of some issues.”

I really don’t like the troubled expression on Roman’s face. He’s always so confident, on top of his game. I want to push and force them to tell me what’s wrong, but that’s not a battle I can win.

“I’m putting you back under security detail, by the way,” my brother states. “You don’t leave this house without at least one guard.”

“What? No way,” I immediately protest. “I don’t need a bodyguard.”

“Trust us, Rosy,” Tony says gently.

My hands clench into fists. “Is this about Russo? You just said you weren’t going to war.”
