Rosa turns around to look at me. A curious expression crosses her face. “You’re not getting in the shower with me?” she asks.

We’ve been showering together almost daily the past few weeks. But I know for sure that if I get into a shower with herright now, I won’t be able to stop myself from fucking her. And that would not be ideal. Especially not today.

“Nah, I need to do something real quick. I’ll shower after you.”

“What do you have to do?”

“It’s just work stuff, Rosa,” I reply, my expression carefully blank.

She’s still suspicious, but she nods before heading into the bathroom. I take the time to place a few important calls ensuring everything is in order. We’re out of the house in thirty minutes.

She asks me where we’re going the entire ride, and I pretend not to notice the way her eyes light up with each exceptionally bright tree we pass.

If I didn’t know she loved me, it became pretty when she said no to Christmas dinner at her brothers’ place because she didn’t want me to be alone. And she wasn’t about to make me sit through a dinner celebrating the day my parents passed. She didn’t say so to me but to her brother, who made sure to pass it along to me.

The moment I heard that, my plan became finalized in my mind. I did everything in my power to keep her from finding out. And now that the day is here, I can only hope she goes along with it.

When we make the turn leading to her old neighborhood, Rosa looks at me and her eyes narrow.

“What are you doing? I told you I wasn’t going to the dinner,” she says accusatorially.

I don’t answer her immediately, keeping my eyes fixed on the road as we drive up to the De Luca mansion.

“Enzo!” Rosa says icily.

“Patience,principessa.” I murmur.

She doesn’t speak again until we’re parked in the driveway of the house. When I look at her, her arms are crossed and there’s a stubborn, resolute expression her face.

“Rosa…” I start.

“I’m not getting out of the car and I’m not going in,” she says without looking at me. “And even if I wanted to, I’m wearing jeans and a T-shirt. There’s nothing festive about my outfit, so you might as well drive me home.”

“That’s okay. You’ll get changed here,” I tell her.

“What does that even mean?” she mumbles.

“I mean we’re not here for the dinner. The dinner’s not happening anymore.”

Her gaze cuts to me sharply. “What did you do?”

I smile. “I’m here to drop you off. You need to get dressed, sweetheart.”

“Dressed for what? And what do you mean, there’s no dinner? Where are the twins? You dropped them off here yesterday morning, right?”

“The twins are probably already at the church with Roman and the other guys.”

Her head cocks to the side in confusion. “Enzo, it’s Friday.”

“I’m aware.”

She grits her teeth, blue eyes growing fierce. “Start making sense,” she snaps. “What’s going on at the church?”

“A wedding,” I reply, my heart beating faster. “Ours.”

She stiffens, her eyes moving over my face. “Enzo, our wedding’s in three days.”

“Not anymore, principessa. I had it moved up. We’re getting married today.”
