I reached down between us and gripped him in my hand. I shifted to guide him to the spot I needed him the most. My body needed him. I needed him inside me to complete the bond once and for all.

My teeth itched with the need to mark him as the mark he left on me began to hum and drive me forward. I bucked against him as he pulled back with a teasing laugh.

“Slow down, babydoll,” he said as he continued his circles over my sex. “I’m gonna take care of you the right way.”

I let out a growl of annoyance that quickly melted into a moan as his mouth covered my nipple. He lightly bit the swollen nub as his fingers slid back inside me. My hips rocked against him, just as my hips had swayed at his command in the bar. I allowed him to take my body to the edge.

“Fuck,” I growled, my back arching again as his fingers moved faster inside me. I could feel my teeth elongating with the undeniable need to mark my mate. It was pleasure mixed with the pain of the denied bond after so long since I had been marked. “Xander, I need you now!”

Finally, he drew back his fingers and looked down at me. I was sure that I looked half shifted with the way my teeth poked against my lips. Yet, as he looked at me, I could feel the awe of his emotions rushing through me.

Xander leaned down and kissed me, the taste of him calming me down just enough for my teeth to pull back to human form. As my body relaxed, he thrusted into me.

My body instantly tightened around him from the shock of his thrust; I was still worked up from his fingers. I tumbled over the edge in that very moment and lurched my head into Xander’s shoulders and buried my teeth in his skin.

My mark burned into his skin as his hips began to thrust deeper and faster. I could feel the bond complete between us in that moment, his body tensing and flexing inside me as he raced to meet me in a climax while my mark sealed us together once and for all. Forever till the end of time.

“Liberty,” he moaned to me as he thrusted again, deeper this time. I could feel the warmth of him fill me, new emotions rushing through the bond to me.

There was so much joy and happiness in it. Immense love and adoration for me as well. However, hidden beneath all the light and happy emotions was a sense of fear that he was clearly trying to hide. I couldn’t understand what it was he was so afraid of.

Finally, I released his shoulder and stared up at my mate, now bound to me without going back. Our bond had been sealed and completed – my future co-alpha to the pack Father had worked so hard to reclaim from those who stole it from his family. Icould only hope that the trust I had now blindly given to Xander would not destroy all that my family had created.

Xander’s brows drew together as those thoughts crossed my mind, followed by a string of mixed-up thoughts through the bond to my mind. There were thoughts of his people and his past…plus his father and my parents. It all came and went through my mind so quickly that I couldn’t understand any of it. Except his fear.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

He ran his hand over my hair and pressed his lips to my forehead before he answered. “I’m afraid of ruining this. You are everything I’ve ever dreamed of in a mate and more. I’m terrified that I don’t deserve you.”

Touching his face sent a swirl of my own emotions to him. I removed my fear and his as I filled us both with dreams of the future of the pack. I reassured us both that The Fates would not give us what we did not need. As much as my pride might have fought against it, I knew something would lack without Xander in my life. There was a plan bigger than the two of us, and we were blessed to go through it together.

My fears for the pack’s future and his fears were one and the same. I realized now that we both had to let it go. The blind trust went both ways, and we had to take a leap of faith that this was what The Fates had in store for the both of us.

“If I deserve you, then you deserve me,” I said. “Do you believe that I don’t deserve the love of a fated mate?”

He shook his head. “No, you deserve so much more, though.”

I smiled and kissed his lips gently. “Then make sure that I never go without.”

Our kiss deepened with my words. We rolled across the forest floor until I lay across his chest with the chilly night air kissing my back. Yet, our kiss did not end. Not until the sun rose did either of us part from one another and return to the packhouse to rest in our bed together.

Chapter Fifteen

Xander

Two weeks had passed since coming to the Rigel packhouse, and my relationship within the pack has grown tremendously…so much so that my coronation had begun to be planned by the Rigel family and their pack.

“Are you ready for the big event this weekend?” Brady asked as we walked the perimeter of the forest. To my great annoyance, I had repeatedly caught Dad’s scent appearing and disappearing along the pack boarders.

It had become so regular now that Orion had called me to his office to ask if I had any idea who the rogue could be and whatthey were up to. I did my best not to lie, however; given the circumstances, I couldn’t be wholly truthful.

Instead, I told him that it was my father, but I did not know what he was doing…which was partially true. I didn’t know exactly what Dad was up to. I had an idea, but ever since my last encounter, I’d been completely out of the loop in terms of his schemes and plans. It meant I had yet to convince him to let go of this vendetta and accept my mate and her family once and for all.

It wasn’t that I didn’t care that these people had killed my mother. It was more that I understood it was the way of our life. Keith had said it well before. Mother and her brother had come here first as intruders into a pack that had had the same alpha family for generations. It was a natural cycle for the heir of the fallen alpha family to come and take back what was his. And while he had come for vengeance just as I had when I first stepped foot in the packhouse, I no longer felt the burning desire to avenge a mother I never truly knew.

“Your silence is telling,” Brady laughed. His voice drew me back from my thoughts.

“Oh,” I shook my head. “No, I’m ready. I just wish that I had a few more people from my life before here to be there to support me.”
