“On our way.”

I slid back inside, my gaze finding the mayor first. He was chatting with a movie star thirty years his junior, the two laughing and looking awfully chummy.

As planned, a waiter tripped and spilled the drinks on their tray on the mayor. He left to clean his now stained shirt. I fought to stay in place instead of rushing after him and making him pay for what he’d done to Ariel and Jude.

Liam slid out behind him, and I searched for the next man. He was a CEO of a Fortune 500 company and a former lawyer. His influence reached far and wide. I watched one of his guys rush up to him and whisper in his ear. They left shortly after, Gabriel following.

The last one would be the hardest, since he was the head of one of the biggest investment firms in the country. He’d been on the cover of magazines, held talks all around the world, and everyone who was anyone knew his face.

But we had a plan, and all the pieces were slotting into place perfectly so far. We didn’t make the same mistakes twice. And this time we had a Plan B, C, and D, just in case.

I approached the last princep with a smile. “Mr. Landing. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person.”

He shook my outstretched hand, jolting slightly at the contact. I’d pricked him with a sedative that would make him more compliant. “I’m Jude Olysses.”

He blinked, then staggered slightly, putting his hand to his temple.

I stepped closer, touching his arm. “Are you okay?”

He swayed to the side, and I put an arm around him, steering him to the exit. “Here, let me help you.”

Dipping his head, he followed without protest. As soon as we were out of earshot of the party, I pulled out a syringe and injected him. He slapped his hand to his neck, then stumbled, leaning heavily against a wall.

My men came inside, each taking one of his arms. We got him in the waiting van with minimal delay. The few people we passed didn’t ask questions since it looked like he’d simply had too much to drink.

We’d only planned on taking out Carnifax, but when we found out that there would be three princeps at the event, we couldn’t pass up the chance and changed our strategy.

I joined Liam and Gabriel, who were already in the van’s cab.

Our men would follow in their cars, but this cargo was too important to let anyone else handle it.

Gabriel put the van in Drive as soon as I’d closed the door. “You took your sweet time.”

“Shut up. I did all the work while you two sat on your asses drinking beer.”

Gabriel pulled out his phone, probably checking his messages for word from his wife. “I was drinking wine. I’ve come to appreciate a glass of red every once in a while.”

I stared at my brother. “Seriously?”

He gave me the finger, not looking up from typing on his phone.

Liam drove like he was taking his driving test. He adhered to every rule and didn’t go a mile over the speed limit. But if we got stopped now, we’d be in deep shit. Not even our last name would be able to save us then.

We made it to one of our safe houses without incident, driving straight into the garage and away from prying eyes.

Opening the back door, we found the three leaders still slumped over.

Gabriel groaned at the sight. “Damn it. I was hoping they’d be coming around by now. It’s too much work dragging dead weight.”

Liam punched his arm. “Suck it up, princess. You can even have a glass of wine as a reward afterward.”

Rubbing his arm, Gabriel glared at him. “Asshole. There’s nothing wrong with drinking wine.”

Liam and I snickered, then jumped into the van. Our amusement soon vanished when we started dragging the three slightly overweight bodies into the house. Once we’d put them in different rooms and tied them up, I slumped onto the couch in the living room and turned the TV on.

Now all we could do was wait for them to wake up.

I itched to put a bullet in their heads for all the pain they’d caused Ariel. But I knew that they’d be worth more to us alive than dead. The knowledge did nothing to smother my rage, but it stopped me from doing anything foolish. I wouldn’t put Ariel and Lenny’s life in danger by acting irrationally.
