“You trust my choices, after I recklessly agreed to come here with you?”

She shakes her head. “I’ll try to make it memorable.”

“It already is tiger.”

I wink as I leave her to a rare moment alone, hoping like fuck Gleb has a good reason to pull me away from her side.

CHAPTER12

SERENA

I’m not sure why but it’s as if a part of me is now missing. As soon as he closed the door, I felt the loss. What’s happening to me? Why am I bothered about him leaving? He will soon enough, so I had better get used to it.

I fasten the robe tightly and take a seat at the table, staring at the view with a sense of calm that is surprising. I’m never calm and always looking out for problems. Waiting for the next order issued from my family, who think they have the right to govern my life.

This was a spontaneous act of rebellion against that, and I still can’t believe I pulled it off.

The door opens, making me jump and I watch a woman enter dressed in the same uniform the attendant who greeted us wore.

“Good evening, Miss Vieri.”

She says respectfully and her smile could light up a room. She’s a pretty girl, and it unsettles me a little. I’m guessing Alexei surrounds himself with pretty women and it shouldn’t matter because I am on a temporary visa here, anyway.

I return her smile as she hands me a menu and says respectfully, “Can I fetch you a drink from the bar?”

“Water will be fine. Actually, second thoughts, I could murder an espresso.”

She nods. “Of course.”

As she turns to leave, I say with interest. “Excuse me.”

She turns and I feel a little foolish as I say, “I was just wondering about your job. I mean, is there a large crew onboard?”

She nods. “There are ten of us, including the flight crew. We work for the Romanov family and as they travel a lot, we are kept busy.

“So, Alexei shares this plane with his family.”

I feel silly asking, and she nods with a small smile. “Yes.”

“Are there many members of the Romanov family?”

I don’t know why I’m asking, really, but she doesn’t appear to think this conversation strange and just nods.

“Yes. Mr. Romanov senior and his wife, his four sons, one of which is Alexei and their sister. There are also two uncles and their sons and daughters. They are quite the dynasty.”

I am interested in hearing about them and as she turns to leave, I say quickly, “Do they all work together in the same company?”

“Of course. They run the family businesses together and every member has a seat on the board. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of them.”

She smiles and says gently, “Anyway, I should fetch that coffee. Shall I bring Mr. Romanov his usual?”

“Yes. Um, thank you.”

She leaves and I feel a little foolish at having to ask her at all. It only reinforces the fact I’m a stranger who couldn’t resist her devastatingly attractive boss. It wouldn’t surprise me if she has entertained him herself, then I feel bad for thinking the worst of her. She was so sweet and kind and probably has a boyfriend at home and this is pure business.

I consider what she told me and I kind of know a lot about family businesses.

As I stare around at the opulence surrounding me, it only demonstrates how successful they are. We are no strangers to owning a private jet, but this is something else. It makes the Vieris look like paupers, and it intrigues me.
