She raises her eyes, and it makes me smile because it appears that I have underestimated my companion.

“Yes.”

“What about her?” She asks coolly, but her eyes flash with a danger that excites me rather than alarms. I decide to test her resolve to its limits and lay out the facts, just so I can watch terror replace the anger in those beautiful eyes.

“That woman was an assassin.”

“Dressed as a flight attendant.”

She shakes her head. “How do you know?”

I’m surprised that her anger has been replaced by a completely different emotion than I thought. It appears that once again I have underestimated this astonishing woman because the emotion replacing anger is excitement.

“Regina Silver is a paid assassin who uses her job as cabin crew as a cover.”

“And you know that because…”

She raises her eyes and shows no fear at all, causing me to laugh softly.

“Do you find that funny, Alexei?” She cocks her head to one side, and I nod.

“I’m amused. I can’t deny it but to answer the questions you are lining up in your mind…”

I advance slowly toward her and whisper, “I have paid for her services several times.”

My voice is smooth and slightly husky as I edge closer, holding her fierce gaze with mine as I whisper against her ear, “She charges a flat fee to deal with unwanted problems. She is well known in the industry and so the question remains, who was her target?”

I tip her face to mine and growl, “I don’t take kindly to surprises my little tiger and it wouldn’t surprise me if I was in her sight, so forgive me if I’m a little distracted, but I want answers and fast.”

The flicker of excitement in those soulful eyes momentarily blinds me and as her lips dust against mine, she whispers, “I kind of like danger, Alexei. It excites me.”

“Is that so?”

I laugh softly against her lips and then she surprises me by lifting her hand and running her finger down my face, her nails scratching the rough skin before she grips my jaw and says huskily, “I don’t get many chances to stretch my wings and fly, so I’m counting on you to make this memorable but just a word of warning before we go any further.”

I stare into her eyes with a blank expression, my cool reserve kicking into play as I face her with zero emotion.

“You are warning—me?” I laugh softly and she smiles as she stares into my eyes with a smoldering expression of lust.

“Don’t expect anything more than twenty-three hours of my time because when that aircraft lands, Iwillwalk away, and you will never see me again.”

She grins, her eyes flashing with excitement as she whispers huskily against my lips, “And what goes on in the sky, stays in the sky, honey, and I’m counting on you to make it one hell of a flight.”

Before I can react, she reaches down and picks up her bag and shrugs.

“So what if someone is out to kill you? It may not be you they are after.”

She drops me a sexy wink, which makes me laugh out loud and she nods in the direction we are heading. “So, show me to your private jet, Alexei, and I will be the judge if I am impressed or not.”

I turn and walk away, hiding the broad smile on my face her words created. She didn’t even flinch when I told her who Regina was, which me makes me wonder what world this tiger lives in. It’s obvious she isn’t your average passenger; her paid protection already alerted me to that. Now I just need her name and I will soon discover every delicious thing about her, and yet somehow, it’s the mystery that’s attracting me right now and knowledge can wait until I’m bored with playing the game.

CHAPTER2

SERENA

As I follow him, there is one thing I can’t stop thinking about. How he tasted when he kissed me.

Despite the shocking statement about an assassin on our flight, that is all I can focus on.
