“I’ll come with you.” I am quick to say, and she shakes her head. “Thank you, but I should really do this alone. Maybe in a couple of days I’ll take a trip back there. Do you mind?”

Of course I mind because the last thing I want is Laura anywhere but by my side, but I smile reassuringly.

“I understand. I’ll arrange your trip and Carlton can drive you. Just don’t make it a long one.”

“A couple of days, probably.”

She smiles gently. “Thank you for understanding.”

I press my lips against hers and kiss her softly, already hating the thought of her trip.

As my fingers tangle in her hair, I am already desperate for her and wonder if I can survive without her while she visits her folks.

I never realized that when you meet your soul mate, it would physically hurt your heart at even the thought they wouldn’tbe beside you and rather than being afraid of this deepening infatuation, I am loving every delicious minute of it.

We finally makeit home and as the familiar mansion comes into view, I breathe a sigh of relief. We made it.

Laura sighs and whispers, “Reality.”

“Home.” I say with a smile. “Our home.”

“Our home.” She says with the same determination, and I grin.

“I can’t wait for you to meet my mom. I won’t be so quick to introduce you to my brother, though.”

“Is that him?” Laura nods in the direction of the house and I see Harrison standing by the front door and something about his expression makes my heart drop.

My first thought is for my mom and as the car stops, I waste no time in opening the door and heading toward him. Laura obviously registers my concern as she hangs back a little.

“Troy.” Harrison’s voice is rough, and he rakes his fingers through his hair and doesn’t appear to have slept.

“Is it mom?” I am so fearful of the answer to that, and he shakes his head.

“No, she’s good, happier actually. It’s Melissa.”

I swear my mind dips out for a second and takes me to a dark place as I growl, “What?”

“She never made it home.”

“She should have been back a week ago.”

He looks so worried, unusually so, and says gruffly, “She called and told me she was in Greece and would explain when she knew what was going on.”

“Greece!”

Laura hovers behind us and says softly, “She must have gone there with Adonis. He was heading that way after he dropped me off.”

“Who?” Harrison appears confused and Laura smiles reassuringly. “I expect he took her to meet up with Apollo. Don’t worry, I’m sure everything is fine.”

“I don’t understand.”

Harrison is looking so confused it’s almost comical and I reach for Laura’s hand and pull her beside me and say, “Meet my brother, Laura, and Harrison…”

I am so proud, as I say confidently. “Meet your future sister-in-law. This is Laura, my fiancée.”

He stares at me as if I’m a stranger and his face is a picture. For a moment, he just openly stares between us and then sighs heavily.

“Will somebody please tell me what the fuck is going on? I leave for one week and everything turns on its head. Fuck, I need a drink.”

As we follow him inside, my heart settles. Yes, Laura’s right. Melissa must be just pursuing her own dreams. She will probably call and reassure me later and I have absolutely nothing to worry about.
