Page 18 of Tackle Me

Jake smirks once more, his gaze lingering on me. “You look cute when you’re angry,” he comments, which has me sighing.

I mean, it’s hard to ignore how handsome Jake is, but I control myself.

“Jake, focus,” I groan, but he steps closer, his presence clouding my thoughts. I struggle to maintain my anger toward him when his scent floods me, and the memory of his lips on mine has me burning up.

He’s so close now, effectively pinning me to the wall, both of us hidden by the shadows.

“Back off, Jake. We’re not dating for real or fake,” I manage to say. Yet there I am, clenching my thighs together, being a complete hypocrite.

Why is it impossible to keep hating him and not notice how sexy his smile is?

He leans in, his face inches from mine. “Then you better tell your dad that because he didn’t get the memo about us breaking up.”

“What are you talking about?”

“He told a few teachers about us and spilled it during practice to half the team. Then it spread like wildfire. My email and phone have been blowing up since I arrived here this morning.”

I blink at him, trying to process his words.

No, Dad wouldn’t do that… would he?

“Why would people harass you so much about it, anyway? Because they think you’re too good for me?” I ask, lifting my chin to face him.

His breath washes over my cheeks, and he’s resting a hand on the wall behind me, just over my shoulder, staring deeply into my eyes.

He shakes his head, a wicked smile curling on his lips. “The opposite, pretty girl. That you are too good for me.”

“As if,” I scoff and laugh.

Those blue eyes of his are smoldering. Then he leans in close, and his mouth closes over mine, kissing me. I’m talking a starved kind of kiss like we’re savages, hungry for one another. I don’t know what’s come over me, but I’ve never felt this primal before for anyone.

I’m seeing stars.

It’s our second time together, and I have no control around him. I should shove him off me, but instead, I fist his shirt, pull him closer, and open my mouth to take his warm, wet tongue. He’s tasting me, exploring, dominating my mouth.

Something’s very broken inside of me.

His hand glides around my waist to my back, then he wrenches me closer, our bodies plastered together. My skin’s on fire, and we’re locked in place as he licks my lips like he owns me. Then he breaks away, and my knees are wobbling beneath me.

“We shouldn’t have done that.”

“Don’t fight it, pretty girl.” He leans back in, his tongue on my neck.

A moan spills past my throat, and I’m pushing my breasts against his chest, so desperate for his touch, it’s insane.

“If we keep going,” he whispers in my ear, his warm breath raising the hairs on my arms. “I’m going to rip your skirt off and fuck you so hard, everyone will hear you screaming.”

I shudder at his words, clinging to him, gasping for air, partly wanting him to go through with his threat. When he brings his lips to mine once more, it’s me who kisses him with desperation.

This feels right, even if, in my head, I’m screaming to stop. Sparks of arousal sweep through me. My breath hitches as he grasps my ass and returns the passion, mashing our lips. Then, with a final kiss, he pulls back, releasing me. I stumble, letting the wall catch me.

“So, I’m picking you up for band practice at eight?”

Breathless, I struggle to find my voice, nodding in response.

“Look,” he continues. “I think it’s best we keep going with our fake dating, seeing the whole college is talking. At least until things cool down… unless you enjoy being the attention of the whole campus. They’ll want to know everything if we break up now when we’re all everyone’s talking about.”

“God, what’s wrong with these people?”
