Add in the fact that she was missing Theo, and I couldn’t even begin to fathom how difficult it must have been for her.

Still, I wish the two of them were already here with us permanently, but I knew that would come along in due time.

“She got home safe, right?” Dean asked Miller and Cole once they had gotten back in.

“We saw her get out of the car and go sit with Beatty,” Miller assured his son, rubbing the center of his chest.

With his fresh bond, I’m sure leaving her wasn’t easy either, and I worried about how our alpha would take it.

“Don’t worry, pops, she already texted me,” Bash assured him, going over to Miller and tucking himself under his arm.

That was one thing I loved about my best friend, he always knew how to comfort someone effectively. I still haven’t figured out if that was a Bash thing or if it was an omega thing but either way I was grateful to have him.

“She texted you?” Miller asked, hope clear in his voice.

“She's not running away from us, alpha, she’s just trying to find some balance,” Bash nudged him. “Plus, she already asked for something from all of us that I think you’ll enjoy.”

“If she needs something now we can get it,” Cole said, halfway to his keys.

Bash chuckled. “It’s nothing that requires us to leave the house just yet. Summer has requested for us to all go out on dates.”

“Dates are an excellent thing,” Dean agreed.

“It shows she’s thinking about the future and next steps too,” I pointed out.

“Her heat was intense,” Cole said, gathering his long hair up and taking an elastic off his wrist. “I’m really glad all of you were there with me to help see her through it. I couldn’t ask for a better pack, and I’m really thankful that you’ve let us into your lives.”

“It’s our lives,” I gently corrected him. “You’ve been part of us for years. I know it might seem silly for someone like me to believe in fate, but it’s the best way I can describe it. You needed us and we needed you, and then we were blessed to have Summer come home. The statistical probability that she would be all of our scent matches is very low, yet she is. Hence, fate. Everything will work out.”

All of them turned toward me at my proclamation and I watched as it sunk in for all of them. Of course Cole and Bash already had sense knocked into them before, but Miller and Dean were fighting against their alpha instincts.

“You’re right,” Miller said. “I just needed to hear it. Everything is so fresh and I just want Theo and Summer here with us already.”

The entire house smelled like her, a sweet and creamy bouquet of strawberries, and I clearly understood why Cole called her shortcake.

All of us were still gathered around the large kitchen island where we had breakfast, parts of the spread still out. Summer’s plate was almost gone from where she’d decimated most of it before she went to see Theo.

“Speaking of next steps, I’ll start getting this cleaned up since you cooked, Cole. Miles, do you mind helping me with the dishes?” Dean asked.

“Of course,” I agreed, working with him to pile the dishes into the sink.

We loaded what we could into the dishwasher, turning it on before Dean settled himself in front of the sink and passed me the dish towel.

“So, how are you doing?” he asked me once he passed the first plate.

I shrugged. “I miss her, and I wish she was here. But I’m okay. She’s not shutting us out and she made it perfectly clear that she wants me and us in her life.”

Dean nodded, his teeth digging into his bottom lip, something that he did whenever he was worried and trying to think of how to phrase a question he wanted to ask. One thing was for sure, Miller raised him with plenty of manners. Well, except for when it came to the bedroom, it seemed.

“That’s good, Miles,” he said.

“What is it you really want to ask me?”

He laughed. “I should’ve known better, you always know when one of us needs to talk, or in this case wants to.”

“It’s because I listen and watch,” I said, drying the platter we used for pancakes.

“You know I love you too, right? I know I’m not as good at noticing when people need to talk as you are, but if you ever need to and you want to come to me instead of Bash or Miller you can.”
