“Just sayin’,” he said to her back.

Nick left the penthouse and headed to the club. The sheer torture of having Cheryl under his roof and not being able to touch her cranked him up, then let him down—hard. He sat behind his desk drumming his fingers against the polished wood top, as Samson gazed down at the club through the two-way mirror.

“So, you finally met your kid.”

“I know, blows me away too. And there’s something about her. Like she’s real mature and I can tell she’s smart.” Nick cocked an eyebrow. “She guessed I was her father before we even told her, then she asked good questions and I could tell she listened to every word me and Cheryl said to her.”

“So, you and Cheryl?”

“Who the fuck knows?” Nick hissed between his clenched jaw. “If I push her too hard she’ll push back, but if I do nothing she’ll probably head back to Cali once the Country Club Hills house is sold.”

“Fuckin’ hard spot to be in.”

“No, shit. I’ve lost so much time with both of them but at the same time I don’t feel like I got the right to tell them what to do.”

“It’s a lot easier to be a fuckin’ outlaw. When we start analyzing shit is when we get in trouble.”

“Fuckin’ truth.” Nick rubbed at his jaw.

“Still can’t believe Cheryl plugged Johnny,” Samson said. “She is one badass woman.”

“When we walked into that bathroom I thought I was gonna lose my shit. She had so much blood on her, I couldn’t tell if it was hers or his.”

“How’s she handling it?”

Nick crossed the room and joined Samson. “Too early to tell.”

A light tap on the door, then Jax opened the door wider and Frank entered the office. He joined them at the mirrored glass. “I understand everything’s been taken care of.”

“Clean sweep,” Nick said. “The Serpents handled the EMTs and the hotel manager.”

“Any follow up necessary?” Frank asked.

Typical Frank wanting to tie up any and all loose ends.

“Cobra suggested a donation to the Emergency Squad and I’m gonna handle the hotel manager personally. Nothing says thanks like some crisp hundreds.”

Frank concentrated on the lower level of the club. “I did notice those piranhas looked especially content tonight—even a little fatter than usual.”

Nick and Samson exchanged a look.

“Did the mob boss just crack a joke?” Samson laughed around his words.

Frank leveled them with his ‘don’t fuck with me look’.

“A perfect end for that asshole.”

They all nodded in agreement.

“I’d like a word,” Frank said to Nick.

“I’ll catch up with you later.” Samson left the office leaving Nick and Frank in silence.

“Now that Russo’s out of the picture, I got a club and no one to run it.”

Nick stayed quiet waiting to see where this was headed.
