"I'm serious, Kyler. I did everything he asked. I told him what he wanted to know about Maxton, and I got treated like I'm less than human. He literally threw me back in a cage."

He sighs and reaches a hand down, running it along my cheek and stopping at my chin. "He was just upset and needed some time to cool off. Let me make it up to you." His finger moves down my neck and trails along my collarbone. I push his hand off of me.

"You can't seriously think I am going to fuck you. I just told you I'm pissed off at you and that asshole for putting me back down here."

"You're just here for the night until he calms down. We’ve already discussed it at length while you were sleeping. Barrett and I both agree you were telling the truth regardless of what Seb thinks. He shouldn't have reacted the way he did.”

“You think,” I interrupt.

Kyler leans in to kiss my forehead. “I’d rather not leave you down here alone, so if you'll have me, I'd like to stay with you. Sex isn't necessary. I won't turn you down if you ask, though." He chuckles like it's a funny joke to try and lift the mood.

"Oh, how kind of you all to have a discussion and agree I'm not a liar. I just relived the worst day of my life to give him exactly what he asked me for and then laid down here and cried myself to sleep, Kyler. My entire life people have been lying to me and breaking my trust. I didn't think I neededto add you to that category, too."

"Callie, I'm not the saint you’ve concocted in your head. There are things that myself and my brothers do that you may not agree with, but at the end of the day, the three of us protect each other over everything. Right now, you’re still an outsider."

"If I’m an outsider, then just let me leave. You have the information you want. You won't have anyone to protect yourselves from if I'm not here."

"We aren't ready for you to leave yet. I'm not ready for you to go, and if I am being honest, I don't know if I will ever be ready to let you go. I’ve grown a little attached to you, and the truth is, you want to stay, too. That's why you're pushing back so hard because it scares you how much you want to stay."

I don't answer him because he’s not wrong. I do want to stay with them, and I have no idea why.

He gently touches my face again before speaking. "How about this: I stay with you tonight, we wake up in the morning, and we take on the day from there?"

I'm still pissed and emotional about everything that happened, but I'd rather not be in this room alone again. Quietly, I move over as far as I can in this little bed and give him the green light to join me.

"You sleeping here tonight doesn't change anything. We’re not having sex, and if you try to so much as poke me with that thing, I’ll shove you off this tiny ass bed so fast you won't even realize it until your body thumps to the floor," I tellhim with a stern voice. He laughs and pulls me into him, peppering the back of my neck with kisses.

"Whatever you say, wanderer, now get some sleep."

It's so hard to stay mad at him when he’s so cuddly. He really is a sweet psycho that I can't get enough of.

Chapter 25

Kyler

The bed is so small I can feel every single movement she makes, mostly because she's been rubbing her ass on my cock for the last twenty minutes now. She let out a softer side of herself yesterday that I know she doesn't let most people see. It must’ve been so hard for her to openly talk about everything and have Seb react like he did. I think back to what happened after Seb threw his temper tantrum and locked Callie back in this cell.

I followed him back up to the bar and sent Barrett an emergency text telling him to meet us at the pool house immediately. When he walked in, I knew he could sense the hostility in the air.

"What's going on?" Barrett asked curiously.

"Callie is back downstairs," I told him coldly while jerking my head toward Seb's direction.

Seb scoffed and continued to knock back drink after drink.

Barrett looked back and forth between us, waiting for someone to explain what happened. "Does someone want to enlighten me on why she’s back down there? I thought we agreed it wasn't necessary. She’s been cooperating with us. What changed?"

"She lied," Sebastian hissed.

"She didn't fucking lie, Seb. She just didn't tell you what you wanted to hear." He was really starting to piss me off with this dumb narrative of her lying. He knows she has no reason to lie to him. She looked completely heartbroken telling that story. We've all been through loss, and Seb should’ve recognized the vacant look in her eyes when she spoke of Maxton. It's not something that can be faked.

Seb wasn't going to speak up, so I quickly gave Barrett the short version of the events. "Callie let us know that she knew Maxton very well. She grew up with him. He was her boyfriend for a period of time, and Gabriel shot him in front of her right after he shot her mother. She said that he fell to the ground and bled out as she ran to her car to escape her father's rule because he wanted her to marry some other man. At least, that's the short version. I can catch you up on the longer version a little later."

"Well fuck," Barrett said while letting out a breath and walking over to the bar to grab his own glass. "So, is Maxton dead, or is there a chance he is still alive?" he asked.

"According to her, she is very convinced he is dead," I said.

Seb picked that specific time to chime in and yell. "That fucking bitch said she loved him. Do you believe that? She claimed she loved him, but she ran away and left him there to die. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. I should have never let myself have hope that I would find the last bit of family I had left."
