We get random requests like this from people pretty often. Sometimes, they’re more detailed, and we’re brought in on why someone wants their enemy killed, and sometimes, we only have a name and an envelope of cash.

We've managed to make a name for ourselves in the criminal underground. We get the job done. The Monroe Brothers. We are discreet but efficient. We only ask questions that we need answers to in order to complete the job as quickly as possible, get paid, and move on to the next. Sometimes, people pay us with money; other times, we are paid with information, that is, if the information interests us. Gabriel has a very large chunk of information we’re interested in. It’s something Sebastian’s been trying to track down with no success.

It's been a long time since someone failed to fulfill their end of our bargain when hiring us, but here we are. It didn't take long to figure out Gabriel had a precious little girl. Pictures of their family were easily accessible online.

I found it odd that the photos changed to only him five or six years ago. His wife and daughter were no longer included. Maybe they had some sort of falling out, who knows. I really don't give a fuck. It's not my problem to try and figure out their family dynamic. My job was to find her, and I did.

It took some digging to find her. She managed to be pretty good at staying off the grid and keeping her head low. It was pretty impressive. Eventually, I got a hit through her boyfriend, and that led me right to her. That guy is a fucking dumbass.

When we realized she was only one town over from us, it was all like a perfect little gift of fate. Outside of Maria's and work, she doesn't do much. There’s one grocery store she frequents usually once a week, but most of the time, he is with her. We can't get to her with him there. This will need to be handled without him knowing. The easiest way to take her without suspicion is to make it look like she left him, so he won't even bother looking for her.

When she’s home, she spends most of her time sitting on the couch or reading in her room. She thinks nobody can see her, but we are always watching. I'm always watching. I had cameras installed in every room pretty early on when her boyfriend was away because it made things easier. Watching her on the screen isn't the same, though. Kyler and I still prefer to stalk her in person. Sebastian fills in when he can, but he prefers the two of us to handle it. I don't mind. I like to watch.

I hoped Gabriel would learn the error of his ways and just give us what we were promised, but here we are. He made a mistake when he double-crossed us. He may think we're just a group of dumb kids, but in my 25 years, I’ve never been dumb. Quite the opposite, actually.

Callieand her friend spend a long time inside Maria's this time. I peer into the window that gives me a clear view of her corner table and see her order another round of drinks. This is the perfect opportunity to have a little fun. Usually, we don't like to play with our prey before pouncing on them, but she intrigues me.

I grab my notebook off the back seat and a pen from the glove box and scribble down a little note for her on the corner of the page. I make it just big enough that she will see the paper but small enough that she will need to grab it off the windshield before reading.

Grinning, I write, "We are watching," then stroll over to her car and place it under her wiper blade before walking back to my car. Now, I watch and wait.

They say their final goodbyes as her friend gets into her Uber, and I see Callie walk over to her car. Her entire body tenses up the minute she notices the paper. She glances around but has no clue what she is looking for.

When she grabs the paper, her usual blush-colored cheeks become a porcelain white. She whips her body around and heaves a few times before lifting her head up and scanning the parking lot, hoping to find out who left the note for her. The fear in her eyes makes my cock stir. Her driver has to be close, so I start the car and drive down the road before it pulls up. Once I am a good distance away, I pull off into a Park and Ride and give myself a moment to bask in the scene I just witnessed.

This girl does dangerous things to me. We haven't even spoken yet, but I want to pin her up against a wall and fuck her mercilessly until she is screaming my name with my knife at her throat. Thinking about that and reminiscing on the fear in her eyes just moments ago has my dick so hard it's painful. I pull it out and begin to stroke it as I think about the fucked up things I would do to her tight little body.

I can picture myself wrapping my fingers around her ponytail and forcing her face up so I can devour her lips. I would whip her around, grab her by the throat, and pound into her from behind with her tits pressed firmly against the brick wall as she took all of me. I can almost hear her wince from the pain of the brick rubbing her exposed skin raw. In my mind, she comes apart on my cock, her pussy spasming and squeezing me as I tighten my grip and give myself a few more strokes before letting loose into my hand.

Fuck, I wish it was her pussy I was blowing my load into instead of my hand. Jerking off on the side of the road isn't something I make a habit of, but there was no way I would’ve been able to drive home comfortably with how hard my cock was after seeing the fear on her face from that note.

I use my other hand to reach over to the passenger seat and grab a shirt from my gym bag to clean myself off. This girl is a means to get what we want from Gabriel, and that's all. I need to remind myself of that. Seb has made it perfectly clear we need to keep our distance from her until we get what we are owed.

Getting close could complicate things because there’s a chance, we may have to send pieces of her to her father to prove a point and get him to cave into our demands. Kyler already went and got himself attached. He was always quick to obsess over things. I need to make sure I don't follow suit.

Chapter 6

Callie

I’ve been pacing back and forth in the hallway of our house for the last six hours, trying to wrap my mind around what I should do. My thoughts are racing at every possibility. Julian texted me a few minutes ago to tell me he was hung up on something and wouldn't be home until late tonight. I don't think I can be here alone while waiting for him to get home. We were supposed to spend the night together and then all day tomorrow before he leaves for his business trip.

The fact that we just got engaged yesterday, and he has more important things to do today, makes me slightly annoyed. It's most likely because I’m on edge from that note. Usually, things like this wouldn't bother me as much. I'm not the kind of girl who needs to have her man around her 24/7 or know where he is at all times. Right now, I just don't want to be alone.

I know Avery and I were just at brunch earlier, but it's all too much for me, so I pick up the phone, scroll to her name, and press the call button. I hate talking to people on the phone, so when she sees it's me calling, she immediately knows something is wrong.

"Cals, is everythingokay?"

"Avery, I need you to come over NOW. I'm freaking the fuck out." My breathing begins to quicken, and I feel the panic rise. I take a deep breath to try and calm myself as she tells me she is hopping in her car now and heading my way.

She was smart and got a ride to Maria's earlier because she knew we would end up drinking more than our fill. My car not being here at the house is the only reason I haven't bolted from town yet.

"Babe, listen to me. I will be there in 10 minutes. I need you to just keep breathing, ok?" I keep her on the line, but it goes silent while she drives, as if she knows I need her comfort but don't want to talk about it over the phone.

"I'm pulling in the driveway now." I click off the call and run over to the door, ripping it open. As soon as she walks up the doorway, I pull her in for a giant hug and try my best to center myself. She squeezes back until I let go enough for us to take a few steps back into the house and shut the door.

"Okay, spill," she says. "What’s happening? Did Julian do something?"

"Remember what we talked about earlier?" I blurt out. My voice is full of very apparent panic.
