I do what he told me. I take a deep breath, and I manage to get my hands to my abdomen after a few traumatic and shaky seconds.
Then I lean forward to get pressure on the wound by pressing my chest toward my legs.
When I look up, Joel is staring at me with emotionless eyes.
“Help me,” I beg. “Please, Joel. Leave the boy. Please.”
But Joel doesn’t move to help.
Instead, he turns and walks away.
I love you.
I don’t know who I am talking to… Cole, Cassie, or the baby I know I am losing that very moment. They all have to know. They have to know that they are the last things I think of in this life.
Laurence is crying.
I think I am crying too, but I still can’t feel anything. I can’t see beyond the water in my eyes, making it hard to do anything.
My eyes close, and with them, any chance I have of surviving goes out the window. I can feel the darkness closing in around me, and I’m greeted by a bright light.
And my sister.
You can’t leave.
Cassie stands in front of me, shaking her head. I smile at how beautiful she is—just like always. Even in my darkest moment she is the most beautiful person in the world. My twin.
He doesn’t get to kill both of us. Don’t give him that.
“Too late,” I murmur and feel something leak out of the corner of my mouth. “Too late.” I’m feeling something, but it’s too late.
Hold on, Casper.
I can’t. I have nothing left.
As everything goes dark, I can still hear Laurence crying.
At least he survived.
Even if I died.

Emmett and Sori are supposed to be waiting for me at the small airport.
Both Sean and Miles are on a mission, which means that it’s up to them to come through for me.
But when the plane hits the tarmac and my notifications start to ping, I know they’ve canceled.
