“Hello, Bella,” she said sweetly. “You look beautiful.”

“Thank you, Ms. Dufort,” Bella said, glancing at both him and his mother carefully.

“These are her brothers Knox, Atlas, and Levi.”

Hands were shaken and it was all polite, but the tension was thick as fuck.

“And you know Ward Montgomery, I understand,” Blake said.

His mom whipped her head to face him, paling. Then licked her lips and turned to face the man himself. “Hello, Ward.”

“Hello, Sammy. It’s good to see you again.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

News of their engagementhit the morning of their party—because they sent out the release—and unsurprisingly, Bella’s lawyers received an email from Randall Scott asking to meet with her.

Bella hadn’t responded.

He sent another one the following week, which she ignored once more.

A third email had been received last week. This one was far more demanding. After all, it was now only a few weeks until her twenty-fifth birthday and he would be well aware of what that meant.

Bella was taking back control of her family business.

And she was. She hadn’t done all of this to back out now. The contract was in place; she was engaged to Blake Dufort, and they’d celebrated their happy news with their friends and family at their lavish engagement party.

Now, the wedding was two weeks away.

It was hard to remember it wasn’t real some days. It felt real. Every single minute of it. Well, except for one small matter: her husband-to-be didn’t love her.

Not that it was a requirement.

Except she had a feeling she loved him.

Bella kept telling herself this was what she’d asked for and she couldn’t expect anything more from Blake.
