CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

They waited in thelarge boardroom for ten long minutes for her...for Randall Scott to greet them.

She wasn’t going to think of him as her father. This was business. And clearly this was a power move, making them wait.

What a dick.

“You know, this is your company too, baby. We don’t have to sit here and wait,” Blake said, glancing at her across his shoulder from where he was staring out across Manhattan. “Hey look, you can see Dufort Towers from here.

“He’s not wrong,” Bill added.

Bella nodded. But that didn’t mean she felt comfortable opening the door to the room the assistant had led them to and just wandering around.

“But I wouldn’t recommend it,” Bill suggested. “Let’s just take it one step at a time.”

“Ignore me. I’d happily antagonize the prick all day long given the option,” Blake said, walking back over to her and sitting down.

Then suddenly, the door swung open. In walked the man she’d seen on TV, in the media, and from photos her mother had shown her.

She stood.

“Bella,” Randall Scott said, nodding as he walked to the head of the table and dropped a single sheet of paper down along with his mobile phone.

Three other men walked in behind him. His legal team, she assumed.

A coldness crept through her veins.

He’d barely acknowledged her, as if she was just some unimportant meeting in his calendar.

She pressed her lips together, holding back nearly twenty-five years of anger and rejection.

Finally, he glanced up as the lawyers all nodded to one another. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”

Blake, who stood between them, reached out his hand. “Blake Dufort.”

“I know who you are.” Randall stared, delaying the handshake for a long moment, which Bella figured was a power play. When he took Blake’s hand, she could see he clenched it hard.

Bella hated him immediately.

More than she already did.

She felt her mouth go dry while in her mind, she replayed the same mantra over and over.
