Bella wasn’t surprised by it. He was a Dufort, after all. They were one of the wealthiest families in America. One that rivaled her own. The Montgomery’s, that is.

Not the Kennedy’s.

If Bella became the dominant shareholder of Kennedy Enterprises, she’d be looking at double seven figures, making her one of the richest women in the world.

She might be happy working at her day job at the museum helping the curators and doing paperwork, but she had grown up a Montgomery, so she knew who the rich and influential people were.

Ward had encouraged her to learn what she could over the years. “Use those research skills and study the markets. Kennedy is more than just a brick-and-mortar business and online store; it has its fingers in multiple industries. When you become a shareholder, you want the people on your board to respect you. That, you can’t buy or inherit.”

“I know,” Bella replied, but she didn’t. She didn’t know anything. She thought Cain was going to be the one who supported her and stood by her side as they did this together.

Wrong.

In the end, she hadn’t followed Ward’s advice because she was too busy grieving for her mom and being both sad and angry at Cain.

So while she knew who the Dufort family was because of the enormous Dufort Hotel brand and Dufort Liquor, she didn’t know the entire family tree.

But it was obvious Blake was a wealthy man. His expensive suit and shiny large timepiece on his arm hinted at that.

Those things could be an act. It was the way he held himself that spoke of a man who was financially secure, and the world was at his feet.

Bella suspected women were too.

He was absolutely gorgeous, and every little smirk and glower from those gray eyes had her wishing he’d throw her over his shoulder and take her home.

If he did, she wouldn’t say no.

She had a big day tomorrow and was still waiting to hear from Knox, but she could enjoy herself for one night...with a man she was unlikely to see again.

Unless Rhonda and Taylor got married.

Which didn’t matter, because by then Bella would be married and running Kennedy Enterprises.

Married.

But who to?

Bella reached for her YSL purse and pulled her phone out. No reply from Knox.

Damn it.

“I take it that’s a fake,” Blake said, snapping her back to the present.

“Sorry?” she asked, wanting to lean into him and breathe in his musky scent.

“The purse. If money is the root of all evil, I assume you got that in Bali for five dollars.”

She cleared her throat. “Very funny. I’m sure Taylor told you my surname.”

Not her real one.

“Montgomery,” Blake replied, and she glanced at him above her glass. “As in Ward Montgomery’s daughter?”

Bella nodded.

Not legally, but let’s go withyes.

“Well, well, well. You are quite the mystery, Bella. One I think I might like to solve.”
