After all, if she was related to luxury fashion mogul Ward Montgomery, why wasn’t she working in the company? Or a model? Or any number of other typical careers the offspring of billionaires did.

Hell, Blake had a few Verity & Co. ties and shoes in his closet. They were right up there with all the big names. She could have her pick in life with that hot figure and beautiful face.

Such a fucking enigma.

Blake took a few steps to his right, nodding at the server as he swapped his empty glass for a full Macallan and then subtly walked behind a tall palm. From this angle, he could see all of her.

Dressed in a nude, almost pink, fitted, mid-length dress, Bella wore her dark hair twisted up, revealing her lean neck.

Fuck, I want my mouth back on her soft skin.

Her matching heels were not the usual skyscrapers the women in their social scene wore. Blake smirked privately. His Bella was way too practical for that. But he had no doubt the diamond bracelet on her wrist and the sparkle in her ears were real.

Classy.

Just as he was thinking of a strategy to encourage her back for a second night of pleasure, a tall, good-looking bulk of a man standing next to her put his hand on the small of her back.

Blake stiffened.Who the f—When Bella leaned into him, as the man whispered in her ear, Blake's jaw clenched. Next minute, he was halfway across the room heading toward her.

––––––––

BELLA TUCKED HER VERITY& Co. clutch under her arm and swapped her glass of Dom Pérignon. She shook the man’s hand.

“Nice to meet you, Bella.” Clive Hannon smirked. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you had a sister.”

“For good reason,” Knox mumbled against his glass.

Bella shot him a dark look.

“She’s been studying art history. At Penn.” Her brother continued, referring to the Ivy League university in Philadelphia.

Bella coughed. “That was a few years ago now.”

“Stupid me for going all the way to Harvard and missing out on meeting you,” Clive said, and she almost cringed. “What are you doing now, Bella?”

“I’m working at the museum until...” she hesitated. “Until I take on some family business responsibilities.”

“Knox. Thought I’d see you here.” Another man joined them.

Bella felt like she was at the zoo.

Not that any of the men here knew she was hunting for a husband-slash-business partner. But it did feel like they were being lined up for her like she was speed dating.

Technically, she supposed, she was.

“Thomas. Good to see you, man.” Knox shook the man’s hand. “Bell, Tom and I were also at Harvard together.”

“Hi. Let me guess, marketing?” she grinned, taking in his trendy haircut and dark-rimmed glasses.

“Nope. LLM. I’m an intellectual property lawyer,” Tom said proudly, and she liked his confidence.

He already seemed like less of a douche than Clive. And he was very easy on the eyes. It was possible he was a playboy, but she’d work that out quickly. Men like that didn’t take long to show their true colors.

Bella wasn’t interested in anyone who’d sleep around during their fake marriage and draw unwanted media attention.

The marriage had to last two years, and she hoped it was with someone who could act appropriately and respect her. She’d do the same.

If it turned out love or attraction wasn’t part of the deal, then they could sit down and discuss having discreet affairs.
