She had that app. It was great. Bella was an avid reader and followed many of her favorite authors. She had no idea it was run by a Dufort business.

“So if youareconsidering him, don’t.”

Her eyes shot to her brother’s in question.

“I fucking knew it. You are.”

“I’m not.” Bella sighed. “But tell me why. Aside from being competitors. Kennedy trades in hundreds of different products. That’s going to narrow me down somewhat.”

“Fine,” her brother conceded. “But we will need to sound out any conflicts. You could be at risk of insider trading if they ask for any favors.”

Oh.

God, there were so many things to think of.

“Your lawyers will cover you for any conflict of interest, but don’t offer anything but shares.” Knox said. “No deals or you could end up in jail.”

“Right.”

She glanced across the room and found Blake talking to a group of people.

God.

She really needed to start paying attention to all of this stuff. In truth she had been in denial since her mom died, unsure if this was the path she wanted to take on her own. She thought Cain would be the one who really took the lead, while she had time to learn along the way.

Or rather, while she sat on the board, and maybe pursued her art history passion.

Now she had to work this out because whoever she chose was going to be a silent partner, and she would have to be a leader.

“He doesn’t know who I am,” she said quietly.

“Bella. He might not, and it’s highly unlikely, but he might,” Knox said.

He might.

She glanced away from Blake. He wouldn’t do that to her. Not after what they’d shared.

Would he?

“I’m tired.” She sighed. “I’m going to use the restroom and then head home. Are you staying?”

Knox nodded. “I’ll stay for another hour. Come and find me and I’ll text the driver.”

“Okay.” She kissed his cheek and headed down the hall to the ladies’ room.

BLAKE LEANED HIS shoulder against the wall, his hand on his hip as he waited for the black-haired siren to come out.

Finally, the door opened, and her eyes widened as she saw him.

“Blake.” She gasped quietly.

“You’re leaving,” he stated.

“Is that a question or a command?” Bella asked.

He smirked. “I know which one you’d prefer.”

“You don’t know that,” Bella said softly and began to walk back down the hall.
