CHAPTER TWENTY

Three fucking days.

Three days and I was almost ready to kidnap her.

Blake eased back on the bruising kiss and moaned as her lips left his.

“Too fucking long, Bella.” He growled and his lips curled as he felt her lose her footing a little. Tugging her closer, he brushed a lock of dark hair off her forehead. “Ready to meet your in-laws?”

“So this is it? We’re engaged? Even before signing the contract.” Bella frowned, the desire in her eyes fading as she shifted to the subject at hand.

No, they weren’t engaged yet.

But they were about to be.

Blake kicked the door closed behind him and nodded.

This wasn’t how he imagined this going. Not that he’d really thought about it. But you know, he might’ve considered it while watching a movie or at Logan’s wedding.

Harper was going to lose her mind when she learned Blake was getting married before Hunter. She’d been trying to get him to propose to Addison for months.

Sorry, Hunter.

Blake led Bella to the middle of the room, thinking it hardly mattered. It wasn’t a beach in Hawaii or the bottom of the Eiffel Tower or the top of the Empire State Building.

It also wasn’t real.

So there was that.

Yet he smiled at her wide questioning eyes as he held her hand, and with the other, pulled out the ring he’d shoved deep into his jean pocket.

You know, because it cost more than most people spent on a brand-new car.

“Blake,” Bella gasped.

Yeah, it was that impressive.

A big ass rectangle-cut diamond sat atop a thin gold band. It was simple, yet the diamond was of the highest quality. A statement piece that would photograph well and tell the world he was a man worthy of the Kennedy heiress.

For the media, of course.

Plus, he hoped Bella liked it. The way she just kept staring at it, he was pretty sure she did.

“Bella Montgomery, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? For two years,” Blake asked, moving the ring to the tip of her finger and hovering as he awaited her answer.

She lifted her gaze to his. As their eyes locked, his chest tightened. The enormity of what they were doing, despite the reasons, reaching deep within him.

Blake cleared his throat.

Shit, this was too much. He should have just sat down and given it to her.

“Or I can just put it on your finger and—”

“Yes,” Bella replied quickly.

Then he was sliding the ring on her finger, and they both stood staring at it.
