“I’ll wait in my room. Call me down when you’re ready to leave,” I tell them getting up from the table.

“Hold your fucking horses, we’re coming now. Let me digest my breakfast first,” Lucas lashes out throwing his napkin down onto his now empty plate.

“Lucas that’s enough. Be nice to your cousin,” Annetta scolds in a voice that’s gone up a few optics.

“Oh, I’ll be nice, I’ll be real nice to the Garo loving whore. But I won’t be so fucking nice if you put one foot out of place. Do you hear me Jordin, Jordina, or whatever the fuck you’re called,” he spits holding a finger up to my face from across the table. “The Garo’s are the enemy. The enemy who put my dad in prison. You would do well to remember that,” Lucas shouts abruptly kicking his chair out from under him and storms out of the room.

“Lucas Maloti get back here now!” Annette yells after him. When he doesn’t respond or come back Annette looks to me.

“I’m so sorry about that honey. He isn’t usually like that I promise. I will speak with him and get him to apologise when he gets home.”

“Don’t bother Annette. He seems to have already made up his mind about me. But just for the record,” I say turning to Logan, “I hate Saint as much as the next. I have no loyalties to him or his father. But Lexy is and always will be my best friend and no one is going to stop us. Not you, not Lucas, and not my grandfather either, even if she is now a part of the Garo family,” I tell him fiercely.

Logan holds up his hands in mock surrender, “If you say so Jordina.”

“I do. And its Jordin,” I correct him before storming out of the room to find someone else to take me to school.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Logan asks coming up fast behind me as I scurry down the long narrow hall.

“To find someone else to take me to school,” I say in annoyance whilst continuing to look around the house for anyone that has access to a car. “I’m sure as fuck not going anywhere with Lucas.”

“If you’re looking for my dad he’s not here remember? He’s with your grandfather,” he informs me.

Fucks sake. Surely there’s someone else who could do it? Maybe one of the many men outside can take me. I stop abruptly making his large body bump into me from behind. His hand lands across my waist to stop me from falling over.

“Take your hands off me,” I tell him pulling his hand away from my middle.

“You didn’t mind my hands on you at the party,” he says through a smile.

“A mistake on my part. Trust me when I say it won’t be happening again.”

“Ouch, so feisty in the morning,” he teases. “Why? Do you have a boyfriend or something? Didn’t seem like you had one at the party.”

“That’s none of your business.”

“It is if my dad’s the one protecting your ass.”

“Anthony is your dad?”

He nods.

“We live here, or rather we live on the grounds but I would much prefer to stay here under the same roof as you,” he says fingering a lock of my hair with his fingers. He’s so close I smell his cologne. It’s the same as Caleb’s and I hate how much it reminds me of him on his skin.

“So?”

“So what?”

“You didn’t answer my question. Do you have a boyfriend?”

I place my hand on my hip.

“Look, I just want to go to school. Is that too much to ask?”

“Why didn’t you say so?” he calls out walking away from me, “Grab your shit and let’s go. Lucas is already in the car waiting.”

I let out a huff of annoyance. “Fine. But if he says one more thing to me I’m getting out and walking.”

I sit in the back as the beat of the music vibrates off the blackened-out windows. Way to make an entrance.
