It’s just Millie and me, the flower and the bee as sweet as can be. Just like honey for tea.

I don’t respond to the first few taps on my bedroom door. I’m so tired that I can barely open my eyes. On the fifth knock I can’t ignore it anymore.

“What?” I yell out. There’s no response for a few seconds. Thinking they’ve gone away I close my eyes again. The door gently pushes open and light footsteps tap on the floor. I pull the cover further over my eyes to keep out the blinding light. I want to stay in the dark. I’s where I belong.

“Geeze mom is right. You teenagers really are grumpy.”

“I can’t come down for breakfast today, Alicia. Just…” I sigh deeply not wanting to hurt her feelings. “Please just leave me alone.”

“I’m not Alicia silly,” the little voice laughs “It’s me. Its Millie and breakfast time is way over, its two in the afternoon.”

My heart instantly swells beating back to life again.

“Millie?” I cry.

Is it really my Millie? I throw off the cover as fast as lightning watching her take big steps to run to me throwing her tiny body into mine.

“Oh my god. I can’t believe you’re here. I’ve missed you; I’ve missed you so much.” I cry telling her over and over, kissing every part of her chubby little cheeks making her giggle. It’s the best sound in the whole wide world.

“I missed you so much. So has Ariel,” she says holding the Little Mermaid doll up to my face.

“I missed you to Ariel,” I tell the doll giving her a little kiss.

“I thought you could do with some cheering up and that you two would like to spend the day here together,” a gruff voice calls out from the hall. Its Logan.

“Thank you. Thank you so much.” I mouth through tear filled eyes; each word filled with so much sincerity.

We cuddle for the longest time.

“I missed you so much. Why are you living here? Why can’t you come home?” she asks.

I don’t know what she’s been told by Gail and James but I don’t want to add to her confusion and lie to her either.

“You remember I told you about my real mom?”

“Yeah.”

“Well this house belongs to her father Ian. My grandfather. He needs my help and wants me to stay here with him for a while.”

“Is he very old?” she asks innocently.

“Something like that.”

“Do you like it here?”eate

“I do. It has a beautiful big garden too; would you like to see?”

“Yes, but Jordin.”

“Yeah?”

“You stink.”

“What?” I laugh tickling her. “What do you mean I stink you’re the little stinker not me.”

“You do you stink; you need to shower,” she giggles back.

Lifting my arm pit I take a sniff.
