Page 137 of His to Ruin

“How’s the wheels?” Logan asks with a coy smile.

I look down at our plates to see what he means. Is he talking about onion rings or something? Except I don’t see any and I know he didn’t order any.

“Wheels? What wheels?”

“The wheels turning in your head. You know if you keep turning them like that you might get a blowout if you’re not careful.”

“Oh, ha ha very funny,” I say reaching out to playfully tap his arm but he quickly leans over the booth catching my hand and taking it in his. When I look up at him he stares at me intensely.

“Take no notice about what I said before about how ugly things can get. You don’t need to worry about things like that and I don’t want to scare you. I wish I hadn’t of said it.”

His thumb strokes my wrist sending a shiver down my spine. It’s nice but wrong, so wrong because in that moment I think of the one person I shouldn’t. Caleb.

“Ah would you look at the two love birds. See I told you the bitch wouldn’t take too long to get over you Caleb, didn’t I.”

Snapping my head to the right of the booth all the air in my lungs evaporates when I see Saint, Colton, and Caleb standing arms crossed at the bar about fifteen feet away from our booth.

As much as it pains me to see him again I can’t help but admit to myself how much I missed him. I hate remembering how many times I looked up into the night sky with my window wide open waiting for what felt like forever for a shooting star to appear so I could make a wish that he would come and take me away from all this. That was before I knew what he’d done.

“Say that again. Call her a bitch again I fucking dare you,” Logan seethes reaching into his back pocket for something.

The air around us shifts as the tension between them builds to dangerous levels.

“Sorry to have kept you waiting,” a middle-aged dark-haired lady chewing gum interrupts. “Your favourite booth is ready now boys if you want to follow me,” she says turning in our opposite direction walking towards the back of the diner.

“Not that booth tonight Brandy. I think this one right here will be fine,” Caleb sneers not taking his eyes off me.

“You sure you don’t want your…”

“I said here’s fine,” Caleb says cutting her off in a malicious tone.

Fucks sake this is all I need. Why can’t he just stay away and leave me alone.

“You okay?” Logan asks gently.

I nod.

“Don’t let them spoil your meal or get under your skin. They’re not worth it.”

I lock eyes with Caleb who situated himself in the next booth so that he’s directly facing me. I play back Colton’s words in my head.

“He was playing you this entire time you dumb fucking Maloti bitch.”

I give Logan a little smile.

“I’m Good.”

Less than five minutes later Christy, Mabel, and Georgina walk into the diner joining them at their table.

My heart plummets in my chest when Christy slides herself next to him and instead of pushing her away he slings his arm around her right in front of me without a care in the world. He really was playing me this whole time wasn’t he?

“Ugh,” Christy says in a throaty grunt of irritation. “What’s she doing here?”

I ignore them and carry on eating my food only stopping when I hear Christy giggling like a damn kindergartener. My eyes stay fixed on my plate reminding myself that he hurt me and I shouldn’t give two shits what he does.

“You don’t need to do that you know.”

“Do what?”
