“Alright, hold on a sec.”

Her face lights up the screen when I press accept on my phone.

“There’s my beautiful girl,” I muse.

“You sure everything’s ok babe you sound, I don’t know different.”

“Everything’s fine baby. I’ll be there tonight so keep the window open for me.”

“I always do. Anyway, what you up to today?”

“I’m up to no good as usual. You know breaking things, making a mess, that kinda thing.” I joke, except that's exactly what I'm doing today. She just doesn't know it.

“I hope they weren’t expensive, the things you broke,” she jokes.

I look down at the bleeding asshole. “Totally worthless.”

I missed you this morning.”

“I know. I miss you too baby,” I sigh into the phone meaning every word because when I’m not with her I do miss her. I miss holding her, miss the taste of her, and the smell on her skin. Her soul has attached itself to mine, and mine to hers. Something I thought would never happen with any girl.

“I gotta go. The sooner I clean up this mess the closer I get to seeing you.”

“Do you have to go so soon?”

“Greedy to have my cock again princess?”

“Oh, ha ha,” she snorts.

Max’s eye roll back in his head but he fights to stay conscious, shifting to pull at the ropes once more.

“I really have to go baby. It’s time to say goodbye,” I say cryptically, pulling the phone away from my face pointing it at an angle where he can see her but she can’t see him.

“Bye,” she sweetly smiles into the phone having no clue that she’s really saying goodbye to Max and not me.

He wriggles weakly attempting to break free from the ropes and scream out to her but it’s too low for her to hear him.

I want to show her what I’ve done to Max. For her to know how close to death he is. To show her what happens to those who have hurt her or who even think about hurting her in the future, but she’s not ready to see that side of me yet. The only reason he’s still breathing is because I don’t want her to have his death on her conscience. For her to live the rest of her life thinking that she had any hand in it. She would never forgive herself and that I can’t have.

“I love you.”

“I love you too,” she replies, before I hit the end call button and his head falls.

Chapter Fifty-nine

Jordin

Ican’thelpbutsmile when I disconnect the call.

Well that was weird. Sweet but weird. Caleb has never rang me before, not once. I didn’t even think he knew my number or rather Lexy’s. I’ll be pissed if I find out that he knew I had it all this time and didn’t once ring or text, not that it would surprise me I mean its Caleb for God’s sake. But then again maybe this is his way of starting a new chapter with us. Maybe he actually listened to what I said last night about me needing more, although we never really talked about where we go from here. Are we going out now? Does his declaration of love mean that he wants me to be his girlfriend?

Just as I’m about to overthink the situation a hard knock comes to my door.

“Come in,” I call out to the person standing behind it.

The door swings open.

“Good morning, Jordina.”
