“What does he want us to do with the coke?” Colton asks with a glint in his eyes.

“It goes up in smoke along with anything else in the warehouse.”

“What a fucking waste,” Colton says disappointed.

Saint shakes his head in annoyance.

“We use our own suppliers,” he reminds him.

“Why the extra muscle?” I ask.

“He wants us to be there to make sure there are no fuck up’s this time. The other three are our backup if we have any unexpected surprises.”

I nod. “When?”

“The night of the wedding party. It’s the perfect distraction. If the Maloti’s are watching us, they’ll think we’re all at the party celebrating the happy couple. There’s just as much heat with the Irish and the Maloti’s as they have with us. Let the fuckers suspect them. All the while I play the dutiful stepson and dad plays the part of the doting fiancée to the bitch. Everyone’s none the wiser. And if there is a snitch he won’t know anything about it neither. Win win.”

“How many men?”

“We think between four to six guarding the front and back entrances. We do this quickly and be back in time for the firework display. Look, we can sort out the semantics later but for now let’s just get back to class. I can’t have it reported back to my grandfather I’m skipping anymore classes.”

I nod and close my locker as Saint and Colton make off to their classes.

Chapter Thirteen

Caleb

Isitthroughtherest of my classes thinking about everything that’s been happening lately. Something happened over the summer when Saint stayed at his grandfather’s house for a few weeks, but he won’t tell me what it is. I can read him like a book. He’s been my best friend since I moved here to live with my gran after my parents’ murder. He helped me with my grief and his family became mine. When his mom and brother died two years ago in a car crash I was there for him because only I could understand what he was going through. Jackson’s death was hard for me too, he was like a big brother to me.

As the eldest son Jackson was supposed to take his place by Eric’s side but he didn’t want that life and Eric knew it. He was in love and refused to give Ebony up to marry the girl Eric had chosen for him. But Eric forbid it. According to Eric, Ebony wasn’t of the right breed because to him poor families have everything to gain and nothing to add. That’s how traitors are made. Now that Jackson’s gone Eric has been trying to get Saint to take his place by his side and me along with him.

Power makes you more of what you already are. It’s an amplifier, and Eric knows that together the two of us are an unstoppable force because our bond is our power. Together we would rain blood and havoc on anyone who stands in our way. But it’s no longer the bond of family and trust that Eric desires. Money and power have corrupted and imprisoned his soul with no escape. He’ll stop at nothing until he gets what he wants, even if that means wiping out families like he did with the others to be the last one standing holding all the power. Once Francis dies all that power will go to him.

I rub my temple at the tension headache that’s building as I walk out of class. I need a smoke. Trying to blink it away I spot an unfamiliar girl holding up a phone looking left to right as if unsure on which way to turn. Is this the hottie Colton has been banging on about? I can’t see her face so I hang back watching as she stops some tenth grader asking for directions. They point to the right making her turn her head slightly but it’s enough for me to remember the golden-brown haired beauty with hazel eyes and curves for days.

My dick instantly stands to half-mast.

Of all the schools look who’s just walked into mine. My shitty day has just got a hell of a lot better. I follow her up the spiral staircase to the library. Retrieving my phone from my pocket I open the group chat and shoot Saint and Colton a text.

Me: Come to the library.

My phone instantly buzzes.

Colton: Why the fuck would I want to go to a library?

Caleb: Remember the babe from Bayview peak a few weeks ago?

Saint: There was a lot of girls there that day dick head. Be specific.

Colton: You mean the red head Saint took into Lover’s Cove that night?

Caleb: No. The one who kicked the ball in the ocean?

Colton: When?

Caleb: It was before you arrived.

Colton: So that’s why he was in a pissy mood. Some chick refused to play with your ball’s Saint.Laughing emoji
