“Has anything you’ve ever asked the universe for came true?” I ask with a hint of skepticism.

“Yes, actually it has.”

“Really? What then? Tell me something that’s came true and I just might believe you.”

Her tone is serious. “You promise you won’t laugh if I tell you or call me a weirdo?”

“Hey. I would never laugh or call you names Lexy. If you believe it and that it worked for you then I believe you.”

She considers it for a short time before replying, “It’s you Jordin. I asked the universe for you.”

Her eyes shift to mine in the mirror. She was frightened of my reaction. It’s written all over her face, but she doesn’t need to be because in a way I think I asked for her to. All I ever wanted was a true friend. Someone I can trust and just be myself with. In these past few weeks we’ve opened up with each other. It’s more than I’ve ever opened up to anyone before.

“I was so alone for such a long time. I got to thinking after watching the documentary about what I really wanted. So I asked the universe to send me a true friend. That’s it, that’s all. I said it over and over for seven days and on the eighth day you came into my life. Granted it might have just been a coincidence, but deep down I’d like to think it was the universe answering and providing.”

I hug her so tight.

“I’m so glad I met you,” I tell her meaning every word. This past few weeks with her has brought me back to being myself again.

“And I swear I will never go after your stepbrother,” I joke.

“And I promise to never cheat on you with any of your boyfriends,” she jokes holding out her pinkie finger.

“Deal?”

“Deal,” I agree wrapping my pinkie around hers.

Turning back to the mirror I repeat the affirmation with Lexy saying it with me so that I remember all the words. After the saying it a few times I begin to believe it, because I am powerful and so is she. Together we are strong.

“Lets finish these and go,” I say downing another shot of vodka.

Noise from people downstairs and music reverberates throughout the house when she turns off the music in her room. I smile widely as Lexy lifts up her empty shot glass looking amused.

“You ready to go to the ball Cinderella?” I tease feeling more than tipsy.

“Let’s do this shit,” she lightly slurs almost stumbling on her heels. I link her arm into mine to help keep us steady.

We each give ourselves one last glance in the mirror before we open the door and attend Lexy’s first proper party.

Eyes are upon us when we descend down the stairs. Not so much at me but at Lexy. She does look amazing though. Her long ice blond hair is in cool waves, her make up flawless, and that dress would bring any man crawl on his knees. I take her hand in mine giving it a gentle squeeze when her breathing becomes shaky. We quickly slip through the gathered crowds and dancing bodies, making our way to the kitchen for some more drinks. We each fill up red cups with liquor then head out to find somewhere to sit.

“Well, well, well. Would you look who it is,” Colton taunts coming out of the downstairs bathroom. His eyes assessing every part of our bodies.

“If it isn’t sexy Lexy and her little friend. You two are well lit I see. You know if Saint sees you like this he’s going to lose his shit, right?” he cautions walking up to stand in front of us.

“Last time I checked this was my house dipshit. Besides what I drink is none of his business,” she warns crossing her arms over her chest.

He rubs his stubbled chin letting out a low chuckle.

“Finally growing some balls Lexy. I like it.” He leans further into her invading her personal space whispering, “Makes my dick hard.”

She doesn’t flinch or back away.

A smile flickers across his face unconvinced by her liquid courage defiance.

“He’s still not going to like it.” He misses a beat casting his eyes to mine adding, “And neither is Caleb. No matter how hot you both look in those dresses.

I roll my eyes not caring what Caleb thinks.
