Page 75 of His to Ruin

“Lenora said she seen her getting into his car and leaving school with him earlier. Better watch your back girl,” the first girl says.

“I know all about it. Fucking whore. I give her a warning to stay the hell away from him. If I catch her near him again I’ll send that Richmonds bitch back to whatever slum she crawled out from.”

“I don’t think Caleb would even go near the fat cow, Christy. I mean look at her, she’s nothing compared to you.”

“Come on guys give her a chance. We don’t even know her. And seriously Lara that’s just being mean. Us girls are supposed to be sticking together and bigging each other up. Not tearing each other down like that over some guy,” another girl says making me sit up a little straighter at the way she just stood up for me.

“Are you fucking serious Kat?”

“Yes, I am. It’s bad enough that we get called bitches, whores, and sluts by guys that we now feel the need to do it to each other. I’m fucking sick of it already.”

“If you like her so much then maybe you should hang with her then,” Lara retorts.

“Look all I’m saying is that if Caleb wants you Christy he will make it clear and she’ll get the message to stay away. You know, girl code and all that,” Kat explains.

I hear their footsteps moving and the door to the restroom swing closed. I breathe a sigh of relief that they’re gone. I don’t deserve all that hate from them. I haven’t made any moves towards Caleb. In fact if anything it’s him moving on me. Silence descends the room once again just as a text comes through from Lexy.

Lexy: Where are you?

My phone vibrates again with another text when I don’t immediately reply.

Lexy: I had to get to Home Ec, but please let me know you’re okay. I’m worried about you.

I stare at my phone for another few minutes not knowing what to reply to her. My body is tired from the lack of sleep I had last night. I’m annoyed at what happened today with Caleb, and I’m pissed off at myself for giving Christy the satisfaction of getting under my skin like that. I’m in such a mess that I decide to skip the next period altogether and stay in here since it’s the class I have with Caleb. I’m not in the mood to face him.

When the restroom door opens again I stay stock still hoping whoever it is will quickly do their business and leave me in peace. The door to my stall gently knocks.

“It’s busy,” I say to whoever it is behind the door.

The door knocks again.

“Are you hard of hearing or something? I said its busy.”

I get no vocal response and when the knocking continues I see red.

Standing, I lift up the toilet seat throwing the tissues that I just broke my heart into only minutes earlier down the bowl, flushing away any sadness I felt replacing it with anger.

Their messing with the wrong girl this time because now I’m ready for a fight. In a blind fit of rage I pull open the stall door.

“Just who the fuck…”

Caleb stands propped up with one foot against the stall door next to mine with his tattooed arms crossed over his chest.

“What Caleb? What could you possibly want from me now?” I demand to know with a snarl.

The son of a bitch just stands clenching his jaw as if he is the one who had a day from hell and not me. I shoulder past him storming my way over to the sink to wash my hands.

“Fuck you Caleb. You can stand there like an idiot all you want. See if I care,” I tell him with irritation, lathering my hands with soap whilst I wait for the water to turn warm.

“Is Ryder the one who sent you that text earlier?”

I look at him through the mirror, “What?”

Is he jealous? No. There’s no way he’s jealous, but why else would he have grabbed Ryder like that?

“Don’t act dumb Jordin it doesn’t suit you. Was it him?”

“No, it wasn’t him,” I say truthfully. “But I don’t see how any of that is your business.”
