“A little bit of Dutch courage. Thought we could both use some before we go.”

“You thought right. Let me get some glasses from the kitchen.”

“Just drink from the bottle. There ain’t no ladies in this room,” she mocks unscrewing the lid to take a large pull of the clear liquid. I laugh when she makes a face like she just swallowed a spider.

Clearing her throat she passing it to me. I take a large gulp unable to stop the burn that follows.

A smile pulls at the corners of her mouth. “Ready to go?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be.”

An hour later we join the queue of people outside Ketch.

I’m buzzing from the alcohol and so is Lexy but it fades slightly when we approach the doorman. When he motions to let us in I playfully shake my head. All it took was one smile from Lexy and the door man was practically drooling. He didn’t even ask us for ID or searched our bags. She just winked at him, giving him her killer smile that could win awards and with an approving nod he lifted the rope from the pole and waved us inside.

Hooking her arm in mine we walk down a dark corridor that’s lit with neon light strips to the door that opens up to the club. The further we go in the louder the music becomes.

I gasp in amazement. This place is not like the clubs I’ve ever been too.

We walk towards a staircase adorned by delicate lighting effects and glass panels. Lexy informs me that the sleek modern club is based over two levels and has its own VIP area that overlooks the dance floor and bar. The atmosphere is electric.

“That must be a VIP room.”

I follow Lexy’s pointed manicured finger to the darkened down closed off section just past the staircase that overlooks the entire club. That’s not what has caught my attention though, it’s one of the bouncers standing guard. The one with the ginger beard. I’ve seen him before but I can’t put my finger on where. Continuing we look down to the main level where the dance floor and bar are situated. Its busy with multiple staff members serving queues of people that wait for their drinks.

“Wow this place is incredible,” I say but she doesn’t hear me.

The music’s so loud I can barely hear myself speak.

“Let’s get a drink,” I suggest before leading her towards the bar, catching the eye of a tall blond-haired guy in the middle of a conversation with a group of his friends standing by the side of the bar. Keeping his gaze firmly fixed on mine he lifts his bottle of beer to his mouth taking a drink. He’s good looking in a boy next door type of way with an athletic build and nice smile.

I shy away and awkwardly tap my heels to the beat of the music whilst Lexy gives the bar tender our drinks order.

“Can I buy you girls a drink?” the deep voice next to me asks. I don’t need to turn around to know it’s the guy that was just checking me out.

“We just bought one, but thanks anyway.”

“That’s a shame you beat me to it. Maybe next time?” he offers politely.

“Maybe.”

Not a chance in hell will I ever accept a drink from a stranger in a bar. Lexy hands me my drink just as his friend comes over.

“Damn girls you sitting on that F5 key cause that ass is refreshing,” his friend jokes making us both cringe.

“No but I wish I could hit the control ALT delete key on this conversation,” Lexy retorts. “Let’s go, Jordin.”

We walk away with our drinks in hand finding seats in a dimly lit corner just off the dance floor.

Lexy takes a sip of her drink, “Do guys really think that girls fall for that crap? Like that’s gotta be the lamest chat up line I ever heard.”

Swallowing my drink I shake my head. “Nope, I’ve heard way worse.”

“You can top that?” she laughs, “Alright give it to me and I’ll tell you if you’ve pulled.”

I hold out my hand for her to take, “Excuse me miss, can you hold my hand so I can tell all my friends I’ve been touched by an angel.”

Lexy howls in laughter.
