“I would have done the exact same thing if it were Caleb or Colton. I’m just glad Owl’s okay.”

“You know what he’s like. He’s a tough mother fucker. Listen, I know you’re busy getting Lexy fixed up with the doc, but I just found out the cops got Eric. I’m sorry, man. There was nothing Owl could do to stop it.”

“We’re all lucky we made it out when we did.” I pause, sighing heavily. “Who the fuck would have done this?”

“I don’t know,” he replies sadly. “Whoever it was, they were extremely organized..”

“Yeah.”

“Owl’s good here, if you need me to come over?”

“Nah. You stay with him for tonight. I’ve plenty of men patrolling the grounds here. The hunt for these bastards begins first thing tomorrow. I want you to find out everything you can. CCTV, names of the security, death tally. Everything.”

“Understood.”

“Ring me as soon as you have something. Even if it’s small, it still might be significant.”

“I’m on it.”

“Good. Update me as soon as you get what I need.”

“I’ll be there first thing in the morning.”

After disconnecting the call I dialed our lawyer, Jim.

After filling Jim in and giving him his instructions, I stretch my aching back and walk around the house’s perimeter to ensure it is secure and clear my head. I’m on my way back when Julia’s soft voice breaks through my thoughts.

“Lexy’s still out, but you can go in now if you want.”

I breathe out a huge sigh of relief.

“She’s got a drip in for fluids and has enough sedatives in to keep her out for a few more hours,” she says before the nurse follows with their coat and bags. “I’ll be back first thing in the morning with fresh bandages and more supplies.”

“Thank you. Both of you. I mean that.”

The sentiment of sincerely thanking someone feels strange on my tongue, but I mean every word.

The nurse unlocks the car and opens the truck, setting Julia’s bag inside.

“And if anyone asks…”

“I didn’t see you,” Julia responds. “I’ve worked with your father long enough to know how this works, Saint.”

I nod, then watch them drive off down the long driveway until the car is out of sight.

It just turned four in the morning, and all I want to do is to hold her in my arms.

As I lie with my head tucked in the crook of her neck, breathing in her sweet scent, I vow to make every one of those bastards pay.

Chapter Eleven

Myheavyeyelidsflutteropen before closing again, weighed down by exhaustion.

Where am I?

My head throbs, and my body aches, but it’s the sharp stabbing pain in my lower abdomen that pulls me from sleep.

Something is terribly wrong.
