The memory of me stealing said bike comes to the forefront of my mind, but I shake my head, not wanting to remember how Saint was that day. I’d never seen him so mad. I return to our conversation.

“That’s not true. I saw him that day after the girls left me in that room. He didn’t say anything. Just stood there watching me fall apart.”

“He had them gagged and tied to a chair in the men’s locker room under freezing cold showers for hours,” Colton admits before chuckling. “He let every member of the football team take turns pissing on them. It was the funniest thing I’d ever seen in my life.”

My mouth drops.

“Maybe you didn’t see it, but he had Georgina and Christy shitting their pants for weeks after what they did to you.”

“Didn’t stop him from still seeing her though, did it.”

“Like I said, appearances can be deceptive. Just because Saint let her get close to his side doesn’t mean he did anything with her.”

I swallow hard, holding his gaze. “It doesn’t matter now anyway. She’s welcome to him.”

He flashes me a full-toothed smile before speaking. “You don’t mean that, Lexy.”

I peer up at him through my lashes. Today’s been a good day. It’s the first I’ve had in weeks, and I won’t spoil it by becoming angry.

“Were you not at Jordin’s party? He’s engaged to another woman, Colton. There is no coming back from that.”

“That’s not…”

I cut him off, “That’s not what? Betrayal?” I lift my fork, stabbing another meatball. “We can’t come back from this.”

“I thought it was just a hook-up when you two had an itch you needed to scratch. I didn’t know you two were getting that serious.”

“I thought we were,” I huff. “Even thought we were coming close to telling our parents about us. But it seems Eric had other plans for his precious son.”

“Technically, what happened wasn’t Saint’s fault. You know that, right? I’ve known Saint for a while now, and I’ve never seen him like this over a girl before. You guys can fix this if you really want to.”

“I appreciate you trying to stick up for your friend, but I won’t be anyone’s secret.” I push a wayward strand of hair away from my face. It’s not the same, but I hope Colton can understand where I’m coming from.

“Can we change the subject? I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Besides, there’s plenty more fish in the sea.”

Colton lifts his cola in the air in a toast.

“To plenty more fish in the sea.”

I laugh, our glasses clinking.

“Whatever you do, just don’t manifest your person. Or if you do, be very specific.”

He looks at me like I’ve lost a few screws.

“Never mind,” I chuckle. “Let’s eat up. This is too good to let it get cold and go to waste.”

Chapter Thirty-One

I’minthemiddleof my conversation with Doctor Sharvin, discussing the loss of the baby when my bedroom door bursts open with a breathless Colton.

“And how many weeks pregnant were you?” She asks, but I’m momentarily stunned, spinning around in my chair to glare at Colton.

Oh my god. What the hell is he doing here? Did he just hear that?

He’s breathing so hard you’d think he just ran a marathon.

Scratching the back of my neck nervously, my eyes swing awkwardly back to my computer screen to Doctor Sharvin.
