Squeezing my eyes shut, I imagined her impassioned moans to be Eva’s. My hips crashed into my hand as I came hard, my cum cascading over my stomach in homage to her.

Without even being present, she had me breathless.

CHAPTERNINE

EVA

The bar was far too loud.

And he was back.

Amor, the stranger who acted as though he’d been born yesterday and marvelled at every little thing like an overeager puppy. He’d been here for two more nights, and I’d been doing my best to ignore him completely.

Jack was laughing along with him as they drank a whisky each and chatted like old friends. Even grumpy old Bill seemed to have warmed to him.

Why was he here in my shitty bar? Who came to Coal’s Lake for a vacation when they didn’t even have family here? It was all too bizarre.

Balancing a heap of glasses on a tray, I rubbed my slick forehead against one arm before heading back behind the bar to pour more whiskies. At least he was paying for them now.

‘Can I help you out?’ Amor asked as I put the glasses down a little too hard.

‘It’s fine.’

‘I can see how busy you are. I’m happy to grab the glasses for you. I can probably clean them, too.’ He even had adorable fucking dimples when he smiled. Honest to god, it was like he’d been designed rather than born. His effortless charm was as infuriating to my stressed-out self as it was appealing. So different from my ex’s brooding, quiet demeanour. Amor had been in town for three days and already had more friends than I did.

‘I can’t pay you,’ I said with a shrug. Literally. My bank account was empty.

‘That’s okay. I don’t need your money.’

Before I could protest, he was on his feet, having grabbed a tray. Chatting away, he made his way from table to table. When I picked up glasses, people often failed to notice I was there. Yet, he was like a minor celebrity.

Was it because he was attractive?

‘You like him?’ Jack asked me as I stared.

‘What? No.’ Flustered, I took another order.

‘He’s a fine chap. You could do worse.’

‘I’m not interested,’ I said, lying through my goddamn teeth. Because the idea of pushing him into the back room and doing utterly indecent things to him wasn’t far from my mind. The toned arms, his muscular back—fuck, even those perfect bloody dimples—I wanted to lick them.

Nope.

No.

Busying myself with work, I endeavoured to pretend he was Scout. Or Jack. Someone who I’d never want to defile.

After getting Jack out and into a taxi, I locked the door to keep any late-night wanderers out while Amor loaded the final round of glasses into the dishwasher.

‘Why are you helping me for free?’ I asked as he came out into the bar. God. Even the way he stood turned me on. I’d definitely gone without for too long.

‘Why not? I’m here, and I’m not doing anything else. It’s fun.’

‘Collecting glasses and cleaning up spilled beer is fun?’ I asked, unsure if he was joking.

Joining him behind the bar, I uncapped two beers and passed one to him.
