‘That’ll be five dollars.’ I held out my hand and waited.

He placed his hand in mine with a bemused smirk. A spark of energy seemed to engulf my hand at his touch, and I snatched it away wide-eyed.

‘You need to pay for your drink.’

He looked at Jack and shrugged. ‘Do you know what she wants from me?’

Ridiculous.

Did the twat think he could swan in here and just take a drink? It didn’t matter how handsome and rippled with muscles he was. I wasn’t working so damn hard to give away my stock.

‘Pay up, or I’m calling the cops.’

‘Will they assist me in what you need?’

My mouth gaped as I tried to figure out if he was messing with me.

‘I’ve got it, lad,’ Jack said, sliding a crumpled bill toward me.

‘All that fuss, and you just needed a piece of paper?’

‘Don’t worry about her. She lost her staff and is rushed off her feet. Extra crabby at the minute.’ Jack tipped back the rest of his beer before smacking his lips.

‘You need assistance?’ The wet Adonis asked me. ‘I could help you.’

‘You want a job?’ I arched a brow.

He blinked. ‘Um. Sure.’

After a moment, I asked. ‘Have you ever worked in a bar?’

‘No.’

Damn.

Was I really considering this? The truth was that even if he was a total oddball, I was pretty desperate.

‘You’re not Canadian, right?‘ I had to make sure.

‘No, just visiting.’

Scout gave me a look and tossed his head toward the dwindling supply of glasses. Biting my lip, I looked from him to the stranger. Getting him to collect glasses couldn’t hurt. Right?

‘Fine, but only for tonight, and I can’t pay you.’ I said, giving in. It couldn’t hurt to let him help out for one night, right?

The smile that danced over his lips confused me more.

‘Perfect. It’ll be a delightful diversion whilst the rain continues.’

Shaking my head, I slid a tray to him.

‘Go collect the empty glasses and bottles.’

At least he’d provide a fine view while I worked.
