Lexa turned and looked at the triplets. “Best behavior. I’ve no intention of vouching for you if you act like asses. Got it?”

“Got it,” Lior said.

Pax nodded.

Eitan snorted. “As if.”

Inside, it was dark, but crystal chandeliers hung at intervals across the expansive space, each caging creatures holding torches. They were dressed in very little, black leather strips covering various parts. Music blasted throughout the space, and at various beats the creatures would shift inside their cages.

“Are those humans?” Nix asked Lexa, following her through the crush of patrons, weaving between bodies so he had to shout the question over the din of the establishment.

Lexa looked up, turned, and looked at him, then nodded. “Willing.”

“You brought us to a sex club?” Luc asked.

She laughed. “Not specifically a sex club. What did you expect of a demon bar?”

He shrugged. He wasn’t exactly innocent—he’d been to a few sex clubs in his Roaming, though no demon clubs. “Who do we need to ask about the magic?”

“First, brother,” Lexa said, “relax. I have it all under control.”

“That’s what I’m afraid of.”

Luc trailed Nix, who followed Lexa until they reached a cordoned off area. His sister leaned into the fae woman at the entrance and whispered something in her ear. The woman smiled, a blush creeping across her cheeks, before she stepped back to allow them passage. Before long, they were seated with Lexa, Pax, Eitan, and Lior in a booth in the VIP section of the club.

“Will this do?” Eitan asked, his hand coming down onto Nix’s shoulder with a crack.

A succubus arrived at the table with a fanged smile. Red leather stitched with ornate black thread wrapped around her form, leaving very little to imagination. “Eitan.” She winked and ran her pink tongue over one of her fangs.

Luc looked between her and his brother, who leaned back and rested a hand on the top of the seat cushion.

Eitan smirked. “Delia.”

“What can I get you?”

“Two things,” Lexa said, commanding the vampire’s attention.

“Ms. Uraiahs.” She nodded her head in deference.

“I need” –Lexa looked at her brothers, then back at the waitress– “two bottles of your best lazuli, and is Ozland here?”

Delia nodded. “I’ll be back.” Her gaze returned to Eitan before she left the table.

“You better watch your back,” Pax said. “She’s going to show up while you’re sleeping.”

“Been there, done that.” Eitan reached out to squeeze their brother’s shoulder. “You should try it. Might break up some of that tension, Pax.”

Luc sighed. Perhaps this had been a terrible idea. He wondered if Brinna was alright, his heart squeezing at the thought of missing her, of not meeting her in their dreams. He wondered how she was holding up, if she’d learned anything new.

The strangeness of the way his thoughts tumbled over one another in relation to Brinna hit him hard, his breath locking up as he looked around. At one time, this place—a place that he would have sought during his Roam—would have been enough to occupy his thoughts. But now, he was thinking about Brinna, about wanting to be with her.

Fuck, he thought, realizing he wasn’t sure he could explain that away, or that he wanted to.

What if he was god-yoked to her?

Was that such a terrible thought?

He glanced at Nix, who resembled death warmed over, and thought perhaps it was. Only he knew, his brother wouldn’t wish it away, even for all the pain he was in at the moment. Nix just wanted Auri, and there was something very powerful in that.
