“Yes. Yes. Luc.” Her body tightened with her impending climax. “I’m coming!” she gasped, bucking against him, grasping his back, digging in her nails.

As she came, Luc slammed home with a yell a few seconds later, her body gripping his, holding him hostage and milking him as he followed her orgasm with his own. Light and heat tore through him as he emptied himself into her.

Brinna screamed his name.

It was bliss.

It was everything.

When he could, he released himself slowly, and she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him down. Luc experienced the most sublime sense of satisfaction in his life as his chest heaved against hers.

Afraid he was cruising her, he adjusted his weight but remained connected.

She rolled with him until she straddled him. “Lucian?”

He opened his eyes.

“You’re glowing.”

The darkness in the windows made it even clearer, golden light brightening the room around them.

“So are you.” He smiled and pulled her down for a kiss. When her lips met his, he felt the pull to tell her how he felt. Gods, he loved her, and his chest tightened around the awareness like a protective box. He longed to say the words, but he wanted it to be in a life awake.

“Is it the dream?” she asked.

He wanted to tell her the truth, but something kept him from admitting what he knew. He didn’t understand it and wasn’t sure how to process it with her. So he said, “We are a dream. You are my dream.”

She smiled and laid down, her cheek to his chest.

The warmth moving through him was… wonderful. He didn’t want it to end, but his mind moved to what he knew they needed to talk about. The spell.

Despite this joy, he knew where he was about to take her would probably be painful. But he needed to know if she’d discovered anything that might help him beyond the dream. More than anything he wanted her out. Awake with him.

But for the moment, he sighed and smiled, content to be with her and bask in the warm glow between them. It was the first time he could remember feeling such happiness.

There was something different about Lucian—besides the obvious—though she couldn’t put her finger on it yet. Rather than overthink it, she relished the feel of his fingertips sliding up and down her spine, his body still inside her as she lay straddling him, and the warm glow between them that felt like a rare treasure. Sex with him had been more than she’d ever dreamed. Though she reminded herself they were in a dream, there was something absolute about their connection, about the experience.

She wasn’t ready for the dream to end. But the gray swelled like a wave, trying to grab hold, and she felt herself flicker. It was a flash, as if she blinked, everything around her disappearing as it pulled her under.

She gasped.

“Brinna?” Lucian grabbed hold of her, and they rolled, his weight pressing her down into the mattress. His body slipped from hers, and she missed that connection.

“Don’t let me go,” she said, smoothing sweaty strands of golden hair from his face.

“I’ve got you.” He pressed a kiss to her cheek.

Her heart expanded in her chest. She knew he would wake up, and she didn’t know how long she’d last inside this spell without him. Didn’t know how she could stop it from this side of a dream. But she knew there were things they needed to share if there was a possibility of getting out.

“Tell me what happened to you today?” she asked to take her mind off the inevitable parting, still playing with his hair.

He closed his eyes, as if relishing her touch, then lay his cheek against her chest. “Nix and I visited the Oracles again, then went with Lexa to a few places.”

Her fingers slid through his hair, then down his back, and she loved that he sighed, enjoying it. “Tell me.”

He looked up, his face sober. “It’s… a lot.”
