“I’m fine,” Felina said.

“She didn’t just take a tumble,” Lucas said.“A man pushed her off the back porch. Her hands and knees are scraped and need attention.”With his hand at the small of Felina’s back, he eased his way through her friends.

“I’ll get the first-aid kit,” the waitress, Danny, said.“You can bring her back behind the bar to rinse her hands in the sink.”

Danny led the way around to the back of the bar to the sink and turned on the water, adjusting the temperature.

The other women, Remy and Gerard slipped onto the barstools.

Lucas guided Felina’s hands beneath the water.

She winced and pulled her hands back.

“They hurt, but they need to be cleaned,” he said softly into her ear, his arms going around her to ease her palms beneath the faucet.

“Okay?”he asked.

She nodded.

He squirted liquid hand soap into her palm and lathered them gently.“Feel any grit or pieces of gravel embedded?”

She shook her head.

Danny draped a towel over Lucas’s shoulder.“That’s a freshly laundered towel.Do you want me to take over?”

“No, thank you,” he said.“Unless that’s what Felina wants.”

“No.You’re doing fine,” she said.

“You say a man pushed her?”Remy asked.

Shelby leaned over the bar.“Did you recognize him?”

Felina shook her head.“I don’t think he was from around here.I’ve never seen him before.”

“Did he leave in a vehicle?”Shelby continued.“Did you get a license plate?I could run the plate.”

Felina grimaced.“I looked, but the SUV he left in didn’t have a plate on the back. And he didn’t look all that happy about being shoved into the backseat.”

“Make and model?”Shelby pulled out her cell phone and placed a call.

“Big, black, with tinted windows. That’s all I got.I was on my hands and knees in the gravel when the SUV blew into the back parking lot.A big guy got out, grabbed the guy who shoved me and threw him into the backseat. They took off in a cloud of dust.”

“I’ll tell the department to be on the lookout for a big black SUV with no tags.”

“Why?”Felina asked.

Lucas turned off the water and wrapped Felina’s hands in the clean towel.

“You could file assault charges on him,” Shelby said.

“He shoved me.I fell. It’s not like he continued to assault me,” Felina said.

“He shouldn’t have shoved you in the first place,” Shelby said.

“I was standing in his way on the landing when he burst through the door.It could’ve been an accident...him running into me.”

“You said he felt you up before he shoved you,” Lucas reminded her.
