“Okay, I’ll give you the quick rundown,” I state and tell him about my call from Shyann. About the emails she’s been getting. I recall what the message said and how Shyann won’t admit it, but I know she’s scared. “But you need to know something else, War.” I close my eyes and take a deep breath for what I’m about to tell him in hopes he’ll understand and take caution in what I say. “Shyann fears being left alone. She told me that she told you she loved you. I’m happy for you both, but she’s not like the women you’re used to. She’s not a biker babe.”

“I’ve already gotten that.”

I can almost feel the anger pouring off him through the phone.

“Well, she’s different. The way she lives, her free spirit, it can’t be caged, but she needs to be caressed. Shown that she can love and not fear being alone.”

“Right, anything else?” he asks.

“No, just do me a favor and take care of her,” I murmur and look up as the man I’m supposed to be speaking with comes through the door, his eyes locked on me. “I’ll let you go. Call you later.” I don’t wait for him to respond.

I set my phone down and watch as he walks in my direction. I swallow my nerves down and hold myself upright instead of spilling into the puddle of goo I want to at the sight of him.

Tall, dark, and so damn sexy, I squeeze my legs tight in hopes of stopping the ache of wanting him. I’m here for one thing, and that’s not sex. I need this story, and I’m hoping I can get it from him.

From Finnegan Hayes.

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

WAR

The anger that runs through my veins has me nearly seeing red as I shove the phone back into my pocket. My sister telling me the shit she did makes me want to storm back over to Shyann’s house.

Mainly I’m pissed over the fact it’s my sister telling me about the emails and the extent of them and not Shyann. Yeah, Pirate brought them to my attention this morning as well, but for Gianna to tell me about the fear Shyann feels guts me. No, the thought rages within my system.

More than that, Gianna telling me about Shyann and her feeling of being alone. I don’t know about her past, but it’s high time I find out. I think we need to do that and get some things straight.

Gianna caught me just as Viking finished church, where we discussed what we found out thus far about the Indiana charter. Our brothers we sent up there reported the place was fucked. Drugs everywhere and not weed.

Rampage, Maverick, and Grimm all claimed they need to weed out the bullshitters who are tainting the club’s name. The Prez, VP, and those who follow them are the ones to get rid of. Grimm stated the brothers who are against what their club’s doing are willing to do what needs to be done to get the club back in order. They’re the true brothers of the Toxic Warriors MC.

As much as I want to get out of here and go talk with Shyann myself about this shit, I’ve got shit to do with my brothers. Veronica is still hiding from the world, and no one can find a trace of her.

“You ready to go?” Dice asks.

“Don’t know why we’re even gonna go talk to ‘em,” Mayhem mutters.

“We’re going because Sutherland reported that he believes Olson and Browning are involved with Veronica,” I grunt, mentioning two of the men who work for the mayor, and cross my arms.

Sutherland is an ally to the club and one hell of a police officer. The members of our club respect him, and he shows the same. I’m sure it’s because of his connection to both Viking and Ice. They all grew up together. They’re like brothers as we are. He wouldn’t go against us, and if need be, we’d take his back.

“Whatever. Let’s just get this over with,” Mayhem grumbles.

Together the three of us head out to our bikes and prepare to handle business. No one messes with us and gets away with it. This bitch will get what’s coming to her. The sooner, the better.

* * *

“Well, that wasn’t productive,” Dice sneers, cracking his knuckles, taking up a seat at the bar after we get back to the clubhouse.

“We’ll have to keep an eye on the weasel and his wife. I have a feeling both of them are involved,” I state and motion for the prospect behind the bar to get me a beer. Something about the woman, after watching them for the past several hours, makes me think she’s in on whatever the fuck her husband’s up to with Veronica.

Dice, Mayhem, and I didn’t get the chance to have our conversation with Olson. It appears they were in the middle of something no one wants to witness, considering Olson and Browning were tag-teaming Olson’s wife.

“Talk about a sight I wish to have burned from my brain,” Mayhem grunts, shaking his head. “I don’t need that shit. Hell, my dick will probably not want to work after witnessing that show.”

“Brother, just get one of the torpedoes to take care of that problem,” Dice quips, turning to face the room. “We both know War here will get over it quickly, considering the sweet pussy he’s got in his bed.”

Narrowing my eyes on Dice, I snatch the bottle the prospects sets on the bar and sneer, “Don’t talk about my woman and her pussy.”
